NBGs minister of General Education Urges Abiem Community and Aweil in general to Prepare for Farming and Support the Elderly
The Minister of General Education and Instruction in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Hon. Akoon Diing Angok, has called on the Abiem Community and the entire NBGs population to prepare for farming and support the elderly.
Speaking during the 40-day memorial prayers for the late Sultan Mel Kuol Akol in Rialdit Ajuong village, the minister emphasized the importance of agriculture and community care. He urged the youth to take responsibility for their aging parents and elders.
“If you look around the towns and markets in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, you’ll see elderly people begging on the streets,” the minister stated. “This should not be happening. It’s a result of young people abandoning their elders and moving to Aweil and Juba.”
He reminded the youth that elders are a source of blessings. “If you neglect them now, how will you become leaders in the future?” he questioned.
The minister also urged parents to ensure their children are well-fed so they can attend school and focus on their education. “A child cannot learn on an empty stomach,” he said.
Addressing the family of the late Sultan Mel Kuol Akol, the minister advised them not to rely solely on Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel. “Dr. Benjamin and President Salva Kiir Mayardit are already carrying national responsibilities. I encourage you to stand strong as a family and work hard independently.”
In his closing remarks, the minister called for unity within the community.
