Solar eclipse viewing party this Saturday at Kleiner Park in Meridian! Get there early to purchase viewing glasses and get parking!
ECLIPSE VIEWING -- This Saturday, October 14, an annular solar eclipse will be visible in the Treasure Valley. The Boise Astronomical Society will have telescopes set up in Meridian's Kleiner Park near the pickleball courts and have eclipse viewing glasses available for 2 for $1 while supplies last. The eclipse begins at 9:00am. The pinnacle of the eclipse is at 10:20am and finishes at 11:47am. You'll probably want to be at the park by at least 9:30am to see the peak of the eclipse. (This event may be cancelled if clouds are likely to prevent the eclipse from being viewed.)
WARNING: Viewing the eclipse without solar eye protection can result in permanent damage to your eyes. Only use approved solar glasses to safely view the eclipse. Do not look at the eclipse with binoculars, spotting scopes, or telescopes without proper solar filter.

It's the season to be spooky. Here are three cool abandoned places to visit in Southwest Idaho:
Hike to the old Adelmann Mine. It’s a moderate 4.7-mile out and back and the trailhead is only 25 minutes from Boise. https://www.visitsouthwestidaho.org/the-foothills-up-close/
Visit the remnants of Wickahoney down in the Owyhees. The old Wickahoney Post Office and Stage Station are (mostly) still standing today. Check out the Loon Lake Bomber crash site in the mountains outside McCall. It’s a 10 mile round trip hike starting from the Chinook Campground. The trail will lead you around the lake to the crash site and back to the campground.

☀️Did you know? Tomorrow morning, Saturday, October 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse will be visible across the continental United States. The Moon’s shadow will cross the United States from Oregon to Texas, just clipping Idaho’s southwestern corner.
☀️Boise State Physics’ Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve STEM Network will host an eclipse viewing party to gather with fellow friends and alumni of Boise State to see this once-in-a-lifetime event and learn more about the history and science behind solar eclipses.

Join us on Friday, October 27 at Memorial Stadium for Baseball-o-Ween presented by the Idaho Transportation Department!
We will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat in the Memorial Stadium parking lot starting at 6PM. Make your way through the parking lot to get candy and other goodies then end up in the stadium where we will have a FIREWORKS show starting at 7:30PM🤩
Concessions will be open with food and drinks for sale.

Free leaf cleanup event in Meridian!
Fall is in the air, and that means Recycle the Fall is back! 🍂
This free annual leaf collection event gives residents two ways to dispose of their leaves: curbside collection or drop-off locations including many in Meridian City parks.
Key Dates:
Ada County Landfill accepts leaves from October 9 – December 16
Meridian Drop Site Locations open from October 17 – December 14
Curbside Collection runs October 23 – November 17
Basic Guidelines:
Leaves only (branches, pumpkins, and garden plants are NOT accepted)
Leaves must be in paper leaf bags (do not tape or staple bags) or loosely placed in grass carts and drop site bins.
No plastic bags or cardboard boxes allowed
