இலங்கையில் ஆயுதப் போர் நிறைவுக்கு வந்தமையின் பத்தாவது ஆண்டை நாம் இன்று நினைவு கூருகிறோம்.
2009 ஆம் ஆண்டு முள்ளிவாய்க்காலில் இடம்பெற்ற இறுதிக் கட்டப் போர் உள்ளடங்கலாக ஏறத்தாழ மூன்று தசாப்த காலப் போரின்போது கொல்லப்பட்டவர்களையும், காணாமல் ஆக்கப்பட்டவர்களையும் இந்த நினைவு தினத்தில் நாம் நினைவு கூருகிறோம்.
அவர்களுக்கு அஞ்சலி செலுத்தும் அதேவேளை, இடம்பெயர்க்கப்பட்டவர்கள், அன்புக்குரியவர்களை இழந்தவர்கள், முழுமையாக மாறிவிட்ட சமூகங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களென லட்சக்கணக்கானோரையும் நாம் நினைவில் கொள்கிறோம்.
போரினால் தனிப்பட்ட பாதிப்புக்களை எதிர்கொண்ட பல தமிழ்க் கனேடியர்களைக் கடந்த தசாப்த காலத்தில் நான் சந்தித்து, இழப்பு, இன்னல்கள், அவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து வெளிப்படுத்திவரும் சவால்களை எதிர்கொள்ளும் துணிவு என்பவற்றைக் கேட்டறிந்துள்ளேன்.
இலங்கையில் பொறுப்புக் கூறல், நீதி, அமைதி, மீளிணக்கம் ஆகியவற்றை உருவாக்குவதற்கு இலங்கை அரசுக்கும், ஏனையோருக்கும் கனடா அதன் முழுமையான ஆதரவைத் தொடர்ந்து வழங்குகிறது.
அத்துடன், தப்பியிருப்போருக்கு நம்பிக்கையை ஏற்படுத்தும் வகையிலான அர்த்தமுள்ள பொறுப்புக் கூறல் பொறிமுறையை அமைக்குமாறும் நாம் தொடர்ந்து கோரி வருகிறோம்.
இவ்வாண்டில், உயிர்த்த ஞாயிறு தினதில் இடம்பெற்ற தாக்குதல்கள் எமது மனங்களில் இருந்து இன்னமும் அகலவில்லை. இத்தகைய வெறுப்புச் செயல்களுக்கு நாம் எப்போதும் எதிரானவர்கள். அனைவரும் அவர்களது மதத்தைச் சுதந்திரமாகப் பின்பற்றுவதை உறுதி செய்வதற்கு நாம் நடவடிக்கை எடுப்போம்.
கனடாவில், தமிழ்க் கனேடியர்கள் எமது சமூகத்திற்கு முக்கியமான பங்களிப்புக்களை வழங்கியுள்ளார்கள். உங்களையும், போரின்போது பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களையும், அன்புக்குரியவர்களை இழந்தவர்களையும் நாம் மனதில் கொள்கிறோம்.
இலங்கைப் போரில் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட அனைவருக்கும் கனேடிய அரசின் சார்பாக எனது மனமார்ந்த இரங்கலைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். நாம் முழு மனதுடன் உங்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக இருக்கிறோம்.

Today, we mark ten years since the end of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka.
On this anniversary, we remember all those who were killed or disappeared during almost three decades of war, including during the last phase of the war in Mullivaikal in 2009.
We honour their memory, and we pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of others affected – those who were displaced, those who lost loved ones, those whose communities were forever changed.
Over the last decade, I’ve met many Tamil-Canadians who were personally affected by the war – and heard their stories of loss, adversity, and tremendous resilience.
Canada continues to support the government of Sri Lanka and all those working towards peace, reconciliation, and justice on the island.
And we continue to call for a meaningful accountability process – one that has the trust and confidence of survivors.
This year, the recent attacks on Easter Sunday are also fresh in our minds. We will always stand against such acts of hate, and work to make sure everyone can practice their faith in freedom.
Here in Canada, Tamil-Canadians have made important contributions to our communities. Our thoughts are with you and all those who suffered and lost loved ones during the war.
