I will miss this man terribly. While we never worked at the same tv station, Larry taught me how to be a friendly competitor - with the emphasis on "friendly." Always with a smile and a kind word, Larry James was a true gentleman and mentor to so many in our industry in the RGV and beyond, myself included.
In the early days of weather computers, when our system would go down, he would somehow hear about it and call to ask "how can I help you buddy?" Once he even recorded maps on a videotape and drove the tape to our station so I wouldn't have to go on the air with nothing. That's just the way Larry was.
Long after his retirement, when something good would happen here at KRGV, Larry would be the first to send a congratulatory card, letter or e-mail. He sent notes to compliment us on our hurricane coverage. He stayed in touch. That's just the way Larry was.
The Valley is truly a better place because of the decades of work Larry did - both on the air and off. Thank you for your lifetime of dedication to the people of the Rio Grande Valley. We send our thoughts and prayers to Nan and the family. May you rest in peace my friend.
