The thick smell of smoke encapsulated my entire nose as I looked at my collection of personal belongings. There was no time for me to rationalize which of my endless amount of comic books, vinyl records, blu-ray movies and video games to salvage. What I once viewed as prized possessions now seemed l...

https://eccunion.com/warrior-life-2019/2019/10/21/more-than-just-american/

Every year, it becomes increasingly difficult to understand the local culture. It doesn’t matter how well I know English and how many years I live in the USA, I will always be different from Americans. It is hard for me to fit into the American society. It’s hard for me to express my emotions in...

I sat in my car inebriated. Processing what just transpired. I thought I was dreaming. Around 3:30 a.m. I was taking side streets home to avoid possible police interaction and did not notice that the pavement was wet from rain earlier that night. As I was approaching a curve, I was driving at a spee...

"My advice to incoming El Camino students is to construct an educational plan with your counselor before enrolling into classes because each semester counts and it would be devastating to have to waste one." Kealoha Noguchi shares his advice to incoming freshman about their first semester of college.

One of the biggest mistakes I have made at El Camino is not speaking with a counselor before I enrolled into classes for my first semester. I wish I was aware of the importance of speaking with a counselor when I started at El Camino fall of 2017. I mistakenly enrolled into two classes that...

Stress is like that friend of a friend you kinda know but not really and at the same time you actually dislike them with a passion. Instead of telling anyone that, you try to play it smooth and act like nothing’s bothering you while your subconscious is screaming and punching the air. Stress can a...

"I started playing piano when I was five because my brother, my older brother started playing piano. And I had to do everything just like him when I was little. Funny enough my brother stopped playing piano rather quickly but I stayed with it. I had a wonderful piano teacher growing up who just completely fostered my love of music all through my elementary school and then when I got to fourth grade they of course offered the string instruments usually in public schools. I knew I didn't want to play violin because it was too high and squeaky and I really wanted to play cello but I was smart and I didn't want to carry it around cause it's the big one. So, I picked the middle one, the viola, which has the same strings as a cello, similar sound, but you can carry it around like a violin. So I played viola, I kept up with it, I got my undergraduate degree in viola performance and also my master's degree in viola performance. I've always loved music, I've always loved playing music, I love the connections that it brings."

"I have a whole list of what I wanna do. My science-fiction movie would be like Star Wars, that'd be legit. That'd be dope, because I like Star Wars. I like all the science-fiction movies: Hobbit, I wanna direct som**hing like that. Hobbit, Harry Potter, things like that I'm really into. Horror. I really want to direct horrors. Not pop-up movies like the stereotypes, like Chainsaw Massacre, or Halloween. Nothing like that. Som**hing like, deep-impact story or like The Witch. That movie is just really dark. No pop-ups or nothing like that."

Dear readers, it has been an immense pleasure and honor being editor-in-chief of the spring/summer 2018 issue of Warrior Life magazine. I have learned a lot and won't forget the experiences and the people I have gotten to know over the course of my time at Warrior Life magazine. As much as I am sad to part, I am also more than happy to pass this position on to someone who has grown as a writer and leader as well as a friend. Drum roll please as I announce the next editor-in-chief of Warrior Life magazine: Justin Traylor. I cannot wait to see what he has in store and I think you all are in for som**hing amazing. Thank you all for the support and love. –Sarah Desmond, former editor-in-chief
