Spoke at MOE Debate in the Committee of Supply today. I shared that exams do add a huge amount of stress to students. Frequently, students spent hours trying to memorise the content of the text books which they had studied during the year in order to regurgitate the answers which their teachers want to read in the student’s exam script. .
But in today’s world, knowledge content while it is still important, is no longer the sole criterion for a person’s ability. Every student holds a device that can access almost all of human knowledge. Thus, our phones are a portal to vastly more knowledge than will ever fit into any of our brains. In view of the availability of technology, I urge MOE to review the current curriculum of the students. I urge the schools and tertiary institutions to consider reducing the content of the subjects taught to the students.

In a recent conversation with the Sisters and team at Canossa Village, we talked about mental wellness for our children. It’s been a tough time for them and their families. And we thought it would be great to collaborate on a webinar to have Michelle share her experiences and tips.

Michelle is a senior counsellor at the Canossaville Children & Community Services in MacPherson.

Let’s hear from Michelle this Sunday, 3 Oct ☺️

Took a walk at Waterway Point in Punggol on New Year’s Eve. Saw many families out enjoying the last days of the school holidays!

School begins again today, but only for our K1 and Primary 1 pupils. The rest of the kindergarten and primary school cohorts start tomorrow, on 5 Jan. This is to help the new pupils get accustomed to their new schools, and the safety measures too. I’m sure they are excited to go to a new school, and make new friends!

I’m sure some parents are nervous and concerned for their little ones, and whether they can cope. This is the beginning of a new phase in their lives. Parent and child will be walking this journey together. Be there for them, and encourage them on their way. Your children will wow you with what they can accomplish! – LHL

Today is 12.12 - not a date for online deals, but marks the opening of 9 new stations in 1987, from Novena to Raffles Place on the North-South Line, and Outram Park to Raffles Place on the East-West Line.

This brought closer to the town area by public transport. And the Orchard station makes Christmas shopping so much more convenient.

I was 18 then. There was a hype to take the trains - the long queues to enter the stations, with a few even getting married on the train! But I could not join them - I think I got enlisted to NS around that time and was serving my confinement!

33 years later, we now have more than 130 stations on six MRT lines across the island. The journey continues.
