Spoke at MOE Debate in the Committee of Supply today. I shared that exams do add a huge amount of stress to students. Frequently, students spent hours trying to memorise the content of the text books which they had studied during the year in order to regurgitate the answers which their teachers want to read in the student’s exam script. .
But in today’s world, knowledge content while it is still important, is no longer the sole criterion for a person’s ability. Every student holds a device that can access almost all of human knowledge. Thus, our phones are a portal to vastly more knowledge than will ever fit into any of our brains. In view of the availability of technology, I urge MOE to review the current curriculum of the students. I urge the schools and tertiary institutions to consider reducing the content of the subjects taught to the students.
