Each week we dig deep for the best Alt Classics, looking back at New Wave history, celebrating birthdays and highlighting new releases from favorite acts, and featuring an entirely non-scientific Top 3 Countdown.

I have a confession. I was a Duranie. Actually, that’s less a confession than it is a proclamation. The video for “Planet Earth” was in heavy rotation on MTV, and I could not get enough. Like a new romantic looking for the TV sound, I watched for hours to catch it just one more time.
At one point I really wanted to be like Simon LeBon in the “Is There Something I Should Know” video, but I knew there was no way I could pull off that tie-tucked-into-the-shirt-with-shoulder-loops look.
In 7th grade Antmusic ruled. When Adam went solo, I dressed for Halloween as a cross between the Kings of the Wild Frontier and Friend Or Foe personas. It was awesome. But not as awesome as seeing Adam Ant for my very first concert. Oh, and some little band called INXS was the opener.
I quietly freaked out my mom when I explained to her the beauty of “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.” Following that up with a dissertation on “Mad World” was probably a bad idea.
My friend Jon had a moped. There was nothing cooler than cruising down the street on the moped while listening to “Ca Plane Pour Moi.” Except maybe cruising down the street on the moped while listening to “Jet Boy, Jet Girl.”
I wore out two “Under A Blood Red Sky” cassettes one summer on my bike ride back and forth to work at Friendly’s. “11 O’clock Tick Tock” is an excellent accompaniment for washing dirty breakfast dishes, by the way.
I saw Tears For Fears at Radio City Music Hall on the final night of the Songs From The Big Chair tour. It was a fantastic show, regardless of if there was pre-concert sangria at Beefsteak Charlie’s involved or not.
I totally had a crush on Annabelle Lwin. “Do You Wanna Hold Me?” Uh, yes.
I share a birthday with Billy Idol.
I once interviewed Squeeze backstage at The Ritz in New York City. Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook recently told me they have no recollection of it. True story.
This is the music that shaped my youth. This is the music that continues to inspire me, and still even surprise me. In almost four years of doing New Wave Rewind, not once have we repeated a song in the Undercover feature. Every week I manage to come across another nugget that I didn’t know about.
It is such a pleasure to continue to discover new things about the music that means so much to me. I hope you enjoy the show, as it truly is a labour of love. In fact, if you like the show even half as much as me, well then I like it twice as much as you. Thanks for listening!
