The Jimmy Cake - Tough Love LP

Tough Love is the sixth studio album from experimental rock group The Jimmy Cake. Written in 2015 as a continuous piece for a one-off performance in The Joinery, a much-loved and badly-missed arts space in Dublin City, Tough Love is part kosmische post-punk dystopia, part time-lapsed motorik stoner rock. Both sides menace and swell, playi

ng with time and space before building to two distinct strains of glorious sonic pay-off. Tracklist: Tough Love Part I | Tough Love Part II

Recorded, mixed & Produced at Guerrilla Sounds Studios by John ‘Spud’ Murphy. Dedicated to the memory of Albert Fleming. Bio:

The Jimmy Cake formed as a 10-piece group in Dublin, Ireland in 2000 from the fresh remains of local experimental rock noiseniks Das Madman. In that time they have collaborated live with the likes of Damo Suzuki, Iva Bittova & Charles Hayward while slowly drifting over the course of six albums from a pastoral psychedelia to full-on kosmische psych, fully realised on ‘Master’ their 2015 aural colossus. Drawing from the same sonic palette, Tough Love is another serpentine & ecstatic creation from one of Ireland’s most consistently adventurous bands. John Dermody: Drums
Lisa Carey: Synths
Thomas Parkes: Synths/Vocals
Dara ‘Dip’ Higgins: Bass
Vincent Dermody: Guitar
(long-time member Paul G Smyth appears on Tough Love but has since departed the group)

Since 2012, the lineup has consisted of founding members Ian Chestnutt (guitarist, singer) and Eleanor Myler (drummer, singer), with former Katie Kim, Ilya K bassist, John ‘Spud’ Murphy. Their diverse sound draws influences from krautrock, shoegaze, electronic music, and progressive rock. The band have produced a string of releases including Flicker (2009), Yellow Fire (2011), Little Demon (2013) and Law & Order (2016) and have played support to several notable acts including Michael Rother (Neu!), A Place To Bury Strangers, Deerhoof and Charles Hayward (This Heat). The trio are set to tour Europe this summer to support the release of their forthcoming debut album. "Filled with a screeching backdrop and given an added textural haze that finally leads to the grand dynamic finale of the near seven minute running time, Percolator’s latest single is unrelenting as it is uncompromising."

Woven Skull - Lair of the Glowing Bantling LP

Woven skull began playing together in 2008 in the empty sparse Irish countryside in a house owned by two of the members and located at the foot of Sheemore (a hill where two factions of fairies clash in an annual battle). These atmospheric surroundings helped to forge their music, which has been described as ‘minimal, repetitive, distorted, ugly and beautiful in one’. The trio spent several years experimenting with combinations of instrumentation, household objects, kitchen utensils, seashells, footsteps, chimes, recordings of cats purring and frogs mating while developing a sound that after a recent set was described as ‘a Turkish Velvet Underground.’

Within the group, song writing is split equally between Aonghus on densely propulsive guitar and Natalia on distorted mandola. The riffs Natalia composes are seeped deep in the Ukrainian lullabies and superstitions that surrounded her as a child and those that Aonghus writes stem from his past musical projects, which span from harsh noise to improv. These are glued together by the endless cyclical rhythms created by Willie and inspired by the sounds of the bogs and woods that surround his home: from syncopated cattle calls to the beating wings of bats in the night to the creaking of trees as they push against each other in the wind. Woven Skull have recorded in dark haunted woods, beside bottomless lakes, and in the attics of abandoned houses. Their upcoming LP, Lair of the Glowing Bantling, is their first studio album and captures a sound that’s more in line with their live performance than past releases, which have been a mix of lo-fi practice tapes, outdoor recordings and segments from collaborative sets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWBjlrYlajI

The Altered Hours - In Heat Not Sorry LP/ CD

IN HEAT NOT SORRY is their first full length album, recorded at the Funkhaus studio in Berlin. Following their work with Fabien Leseure on the Sweet Jelly Roll EP (A Recordings) in 2013, plans were made to further explore the potential for capturing the band's intense live energy. The group returned to Berlin in 2014 and spent three weeks exploring, experimenting and recording with Leseure at the controls. The project began with a great variety of songs and ideas but a unique and cohesive style was quickly decided upon due to an emphasis on live recording. The resulting ten tracks are representative of the group's evolution since their last EP – beginning with a lush psychedelic sound and pushing towards a stark but honest headspace. This album has clearly been influenced by the dismal but beautiful surroundings of the 1950s Funkhaus studio building (a former DDR radio center) and in many ways IN HEAT NOT SORRY's sound and atmosphere encapsulates the band's ongoing fascination with testing (and sometimes disrupting) that fine balance between tranquility and chaos. The Altered Hours continue to tour and play festivals across Europe, having also been invited to share the stage with some of their biggest influences, such as the Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Pop Group, Singapore Sling and White Hills. In Heat Not Sorry

Album Of The Week. The Irish Times

"On the intense and hypnotic In Heat Not Sorry, much of the music is utterly spellbinding." Hot Press

"With its focus centred on jilted textural tones, the Altered Hours debut is so stylistically on-point that it occupies a world all of its own. One of shadowed emotions, want, isolation and decay" The Last Mixed Tape

Magic Pockets - Volcano Of The Bleeding Skies LP

Magic Pockets is a progressive/synth/drone project by Ruadhan O’Meara (of Dublin based Synth-Metal act No Spill Blood). He has been creating music under this moniker since 2012, and has performed live amongst the likes of Emeralds, Umberto, Man Forever, Blanck Mass, The Ex, & Xeno and Oaklander. The debut LP ‘Volcano of The Bleeding Skies’ will be released on Vinyl & Digital download by Penske recordings on 25/11/2016 & will be available to order from 07/10/2016. The album was recorded using an array of vintage synthesizers, drum machines, miscellaneous electronics and manipulated samples, all sent to 1 inch tape. Its 7 tracks feature swirling psychedelics, pulsing sequences, and stark minimalism all the while incorporating harmony and melodic leads. Drawing heavily from the sounds of bygone eras, it also sits aside the current wave of electronic re-invention. Recorded in Dublin by Gareth Averil
Mastered by Andrew Veres
Artwork by Robert Beatty
