Champions with heart!

As the games progressed, we witnessed each player tirelessly persevering for the champion title, exemplifying the value of Magis and sportsmanship in their Juegos de Jovenes journey. However, among the ten casas that fearlessly competed in each sports and non-sports competition, only one emerged to get a hold of the gold.

Let us give a big round of applause to the players who have reached the top. Indeed, you have courageously played with heart, and you have brought great pride to your casas. You have truly embodied Animo as a true Atenean!

Congratulations, champions! Continue soaring high!

Kay gandang tingnan at talagang hindi nakasasawang panoorin ang mga sandaling naganap noong nagdaang intramurals na itinampok sa hatirang pangmadla, lalong-lalo na sa opisyal na page ng Juegos de Jovenes 2023. Makikita doon ang hitsura ng mga kaibigan natin at ng mga mag-aaral habang naglalaro ng iba't ibang isports at non-sports na mga paligsahan. Ngunit, paano nga ba naisakatuparan ang lahat ng ito?

Maliban sa sampung koponan ng mga manlalaro, may iisa pang koponan na karapat-dapat ding bigyang-pansin — ang mga manunulat, potograpo, videograpo, kartunista, layout artist, broadcaster, at tagapamahala ng hatirang pangmadla, na silang naging dahilan ng matagumpay na paghahatid ng balita sa loob ng tatlong araw ng palaro. Hindi naging madali ang kanilang ginampanan dahil maliban sa pagiging mamamahayag, kinakailangan din nilang gampanan ang kanilang mga papel sa kani-kanilang mga casa at makibahagi sa mga isports at non-sports na mga paligsahan. Sa kabila nito, nagawa pa rin nilang pagsabayin ang kanilang mga tungkulin sa kanilang casa at sa pamamamahayag.

Bagama’t hindi naging magaan ang trabaho, ang bawat isa sa kanila ay naaliw rin sa kanilang gampanin sa bawat kuha ng mga mag-aaral na dugo't pawis ang isinakripisyo upang maipanalo ang sinalihang kompetisyon. Kaya't isang malaking saludo sa ating mga mamamahayag na silang naging dahilan ng pagkuha ng magagandang larawan, pagbidyo sa iba't ibang kaganapan, at pagbabahagi ng impormasyon sa pamamagitan ng pagbabalita. Bigyan din natin ng saludo ang samahan ng mga g**o at kawani at ang administrasyon ng AdZU-SHS na nagsikap na gawing makabuluhan at ‘di malilimutang kaganapan ang Juegos de Jovenes 2023 para sa mga mag-aaral. Labis-labis ang pasasalamat sa kanilang ipinakitang sipag, tiyaga, at determinasyon!

⁉️Is this a Futsal reference⁉️

Tension fills the air before a match starts, and everyone is feeling intense emotions of excitement and anxiety. But wait, do you hear those murmurs around the corner? You can bet that the other team is CULTivating enough strength and energy just to make sure they secure that win!

It must be fun to see the different sports teams coming up with their own 'game rituals' that would leave other teams scratching their heads. It shows how united and close these players are, despite the short-lived preparation period and busy schedules! Although the Juegos de Jovenes is a tournament of friendly matches, our Senior High School community will always turn it into a competition with style and wit! Indeed, the spirit of Magis and Companionship is evident in the competitiveness and togetherness of Ateneans!

HEADLINES IN MOTION | Cheer and Dance: Las Casas Cheerdance Competition

The Juegos de Jovenes cheerdance competition happened on October 27, where the 10 las casas lit up the dance floor and showcased their abilities in performing.

We got to interview two performers from different houses; Casa Rome and Casa Loyola, and asked them for their preparations before the big event.

“I also considered how we could give impact to the audiences—to help give some relevance to our audience, because of course, Atenistas are one of the most active students to cheer for their co-houses and to give support.”

These are words from the captain of the winning team–Casa Rome, who was hailed as the champion for this year’s cheerdance competition, with Casa Paris as the 1st runner-up and Casa Loyola as 2nd runner-up, which was announced last October 28 on the closing program of the Juegos de Jovenes.

BALIK-TANAW: Matinding labanan sa pagitan ng mga manlalarong umaapaw ang determinasyong makamit ang tropeo at tanghaling kampeon ang sumalubong sa AdZU-SHS noong ikalawang araw ng Juegos de Jovenes 2023.

Matapos ang mainit na simula ng Juegos de Jovenes 2023 sa unang araw, ika-26 ng Oktubre, hindi nagpaawat ang mga casa na ibuhos ang lakas sa pagtutuos sa iba’t ibang sports at non-sports.

Sinimulan ito sa pamamagitan ng Women's Volleyball bandang alas-8 N.U. at Men’s Volleyball bandang alas-10 N.U. Sinundan naman ito ng eliminasyon "championship game" ng iba pang mga laro, kabilang na ang chess boys and girls, badminton boys and girls, at ng E-sports: Mobile Legends. Bandang hapon, ginanap ang prusisyon para sa Birheng Maria, o ang Marian Procession, na winakasan sa pamamagitan ng pag-alay ng mga dasal para sa kapayapaan.

Pagsapit ng dapit-hapon, ginanap ang isa sa mga pinakainaabangang sa araw: ang Cheerdance Competition. Ipinamalas ng Casa Salamanca, Casa Jerusalem, Casa Loyola, Casa Paris, Casa Montserrat, Casa Barcelona, Casa Rome, Casa Pamplona, Casa Venice, at Casa Manresa ang kanilang angking-galing sa larangan ng paghataw at pagbuo ng mga konseptong kahanga-hanga sa sayaw.

Sabado, ika-28 ng Oktubre, ikatlong araw ng Juegos de Jovenes 2023, ipinagpatuloy ang championship game ng iilang sports tulad ng Men and Women’s Volleyball, Men and Women’s Softball, Men and Women’s Basketball, at marami pang iba bandang alas-8 N.U. hanggang alas-2 N.H. Saklaw ng araw na ito ang pagtanghal ng kampeon.

Halo-halong emosyon ang nadarama ng mga mag-aaral pati ng Faculty and Staff ng Mataas na Paaralang Senior ng Pamantasang Ateneo de Zamboanga habang nakikinig sa makaagaw-hininga na resulta ng bawat patimapalak para sa Juegos de Jovenes 2023.

BALINTATAW: Matang Nagmamanman, Sa Bawat Sulok ng Paaralan

Ang labanan para sa inaasam-asam na titulong "kampeon" sa larangan ng Volleyball para sa kababaihan at kalalakihan sa Juegos de Jovenes 2023 ay umarangkada noong ika-28 ng Oktubre 2023 sa Multi-Purpose Covert Court 1 ng Pamantasang Ateneo de Zamboanga, mula alas 8 hanggang 11 ng umaga. Ang mga koponan ng Casa Paris at Casa Salamanca para sa mga kababaihan at ang mga koponan ng Casa Rome at Casa Venice para sa mga kalalakihan ay nagpakitang-gilas at ipinamalas ang kanilang mahusay na estratehiya ng pagsalo at pagpalo ng bola. Higit pa rito, labis na nangibabaw ang determinasyon at pursigidong diwa ng bawat manlalaro.

Kaya naman, ating balikan ang mga kaganapan sa pagsungkit ng Casa Venice at Casa Salamanca sa titulong kampeon sa larangan ng Volleyball.

JUEGOS DE JOVENES 2023 OVERALL CHAMPION

Hear ye! hear ye! Cheers to Casa Loyola!

Juegos de Jovenes 2023 has finally come to an end, shedding light on the continuous flow of camaraderie in the AdZU-SHS. The close battle between different houses did not diminish the COURAGE of Casa Loyola as they embarked to achieve this year's title as the overall champion.

Truly, Casa Loyola was able to pave their way to the top! Game after game, prowess was exhibited. Their courageous display of competitiveness after securing 22 gold medals made them worthy of the crown.

A toast for this remarkable victory! Congratulations, Casa Loyola, you set your heart courageously ablaze, which just proves that with daring determination, anything is possible.

JUEGOS DE JOVENES 2023 OVERALL FIRST RUNNER UP

In the heart of a spirited and passionate community, Casa Paris stands as a beacon of inspiration and achievement. At the Juego de Jovenes 2023, they reaped the rewards of their tireless dedication and effort.

Casa Paris emerged as the overall 1st runner-up, turning their hard work into 21 glittering gold medals. But Casa Paris's brilliance extended beyond the realm of sports. In a testament to their commitment to excellence, Casa Paris was also honored with the prestigious Eco-Magis Award, emphasizing their responsibility to a cleaner and greener world.

With their skill, determination, and passion, they transformed Casa Paris into a place where dreams became a reality. Their journey serves as a shining example of what can be accomplished when a group of passionate individuals comes together to pursue a common goal.

Let it be known far and wide, let the cheers resound, Casa Paris, you have earned this remarkable victory and demonstrated the true essence of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Congratulations!

JUEGOS DE JOVENES OVERALL 2ND RUNNER UP

As we end the Juegos de Jovenes 2023, we look at the formidable team, Casa Venice, for taking place as the second runner-up as they partake in different sports and non-sports activities that took place at Ateneo de Zamboanga University Senior High School Intramurals.

They were able to showcase their remarkable skills, talents, and team collaboration, and were able to acquire 18 gold medals and 24 bronze medals which they were able to outstandingly score a total of 42 points for their casa and secure their win.

As they showed their spirit of Magis with all those sweats, practices, preparation, and hard work for the intramurals, they were able to show a worthwhile experience for themselves and for the audiences as they left it with a game of sportsmanship.

RESULTS | Following the previous two days of fierce and tensioned battles for the Women's Basketball Tournament, Casa Manresa and Casa Paris fought for the title of champion in the final game, while Casa Jerusalem and Casa Venice fought for the ranking of 2nd Runner-Up.

Casa Paris concluded the Championship game as they took home the crown as queens of the Women's Basketball tournament for AdZU-SHS Intramurals 2023, winning 18-15 against Casa Manresa, who finished as the 1st Runner-up. As for the title of 2nd Runner-up, Casa Venice had secured their victory, winning 17-15 against Casa Jerusalem.

RESULTS | The final buzzer sounds were served with a thrilling championship game between Casa Montserrat and Casa Loyola, while Casa Jerusalem and Casa Paris battled it out on the court in hopes for a podium finish in the Men's Basketball tournament.

In the end, Casa Monsterrat claimed the Championship title after completing a 4th quarter comeback in Game 9 to secure a 54-46 win against Casa Loyola, who claimed the 1st Runner-up title. Meanwhile, Casa Paris came out on top in a nail biter game securing a 2nd runner-up finish against Casa Jerusalem with a score of 42-38 in Game 10.

"Today, it was unexpected na maraming students ang mag-line up. Our products easily ran out noong umaga pa lang and in-demand 'yung products namin.” Iyan ang katagang binitawan ng isang mag-aaral mula sa HUMSS Schumacher.

Kasabay ng inaabangang Juegos de Jovenes 2023, noong ika-27 ng Oktubre ay isinagawa rin ang Entre-fair na nilahukan ng mga mag-aaral ng HUMSS at ABM ng ikalabing-isang (11) baitang. Ang nasabing aktibidad na nagsilbing kanilang Grand Performance Task ay ang naging daan upang kanilang maipamalas ang kanilang pagkamalikhain at kahusayan sa larangan ng Business Management.

Sa EntreFair, ang mga mag-aaral ay nagbabahagi ng iba’t ibang produkto tulad ng pagkain, inumin, at mga "merchandise" tulad ng makukulay na sariling-gawang pulseras, "stickers", at ibang kaakit-akit na bagay na tiyak na kinagiliwan ng mga mamimili. Ilan sa mga booths na nag-alok ng pagkain ay ang Schumasweets ng HUMSS Schumacher at Basketbites ng ABM Palliola. Ang mga malasa at patok na pagkaing ibinahagi ng Schumasweets ay Icemckers o mas kilala bilang Icecones at Shoereos o "fried oreos", "three pointers" o "fries with cheese and beef", "mini hoops" o "mini flavored donuts", at pampatanggal-uhaw — ang Sparkling Spike na pinaghalong "fruit juice" at Sprite.

Ang Bernasticrafts ng Bernas at Mahika Creations ng HUMSS ay parehong nag-alok ng mga sariling-gawang pulseras, mga "button pin", mga "lanyard", at mga "sticker" na makukulay at talaga namang nakahakot ng mamimili dahil ang ilan sa mga ito ay Taylor Swift o kaya naman ay Miles Morales at Gwen Stacy-inspired. Ang Pro-Perya ng ABM ay nagbigay-aliw sa mga mag-aaral sa pamamagitan ng paglalaro ng iba’t ibang laro na matatagpuan sa mga perya gaya ng Ring Toss, The Nutstacker, Spin the Wheel, Shoot the Bubble, at Pin the Horsetail na talaga namang pinanggigigilan ng karamihan. At panghuli sa listahan ay ang All-Star Mayer ng ABM na isang multi-service booth na nagbabahagi ng mga larong pangmasa gaya ng Bounce your Luck, Cover the Spot, Comets, at "merchandise" naman gaya ng Shoot for the Stars para sa mga pulseras at mga "headband" Spatial Memory naman para sa palasusian at "stickers", at Sparks Fly’s Photobooth.

Batay sa mga pahayag ng mga lahok ng Entrefair, dagliang naubos ang kanilang mga paninda at marami sa mga mamimili ang ilang ulit na bumalik sa kanilang puwesto upang muling bumili ng mga inaalok nilang produkto o serbisyo. Ayon sa isang mag-aaral ng Schumacher, “The more na nagulat kami kasi there are teachers na more than two or three times na bumabalik sa booth namin.” Lubos na umapaw ang kagalakan sa puso ng bawat isa sa mga mag-aaral na lumahok sa Entrefair dahil sa taos-pusong suporta na kanilang natanggap hindi lang sa kanilang kapwa mag-aaral kundi pati sa mga g**o’t kawani.

Sa pangkalahatan, hindi maitatanggi na ang naganap na Entrefair ay isang matagumpay na pangyayaring lalong nagpatindi sa kaligayahang nadarama ng bawat isa. Ito ay isa sa mga patunay na ang mga Atenista ay likas na malikhain sa paggawa ng kani-kanilang produkto. Ang aktibidad na ito ay tumatak sa puso’t isip ng mga dumalo, lalo na’t ito ang pagbabalik ng Entrefair matapos ang dalawang taong "online learning" na dulot ng pandemya. Ngayong nakaukit na sa kasaysayan ng pamantasan ang araw na ito, buong-puso nang aabangan ang susunod na pasabog na dala ng Entrefair para sa mga makikilahok dito.

IN PHOTOS | Vigor and enthusiasm flowed through the crowds of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Senior High School (AdZU-SHS) community as they fought, cheered, and sought out victories for their respective Casas in this year's AdZU-SHS Intramurals.

Although fatigued from all their games, the AdZU-SHS community continued to show resolute passion and determination throughout the Juego de Jovenes 2023. Players and participants from sports to non-sports persisted in overcoming challenges to bring pride and honor to their respective Casas. Cuts and bruises, are all worth it, as they represent each player's hard work and continuous determination to give their all in the sports they pursued. Fellow Casa members, on the scene, by the fields, or within the bleachers ambitiously support their Casa players.

With cheers still filling the air, the new found hope and aspirations gained from the successful event with its theme, “Developing the youth for synergy and becoming persons for and with others through sports” is enough to make it memorable. For this, The Oculus Publications would like to present to you a quick review of the things that happened during the second and third days of intramurals.

SOARING HEADLINES | Igniting the Torch of Camaraderie: Juegos de Jovenes 2023

For a brief moment in time, we had the chance to take a break from the relentless academic grind and step out of the confines of our classroom to engage in a different kind of learning and growth—one that was etched in sweat, fueled by camaraderie, and a spectacular showcase of talent, passion, and teamwork.

After three long years, AdZU-SHS Intramurals 2023, Juegos de Jovenes, recently made its grand comeback and concluded with great success. Spanning three exciting days, from October 26 to 28, this event carried the theme: “Developing the youth for synergy and becoming persons for and with others through sports.”

The sections were divided into different Casas, each bearing names associated with places significant to St. Ignatius of Loyola. These Casas—Montserrat, Rome, Pamplona, Venice, Loyola, Salamanca, Barcelona, Paris, Jerusalem, and Manresa— competed in various sports and non-sports competitions, all vying for the coveted overall championship.

Throughout the grand festivity, each Casa poured their hearts and souls into preparation and competition. Nevertheless, it is important to emphasize that winning is but a part of the grander picture. What truly mattered was the shared joy we derived from the games, as the essence of the intramurals lies not in cutthroat victories or asserting dominance. Instead, it served as a platform to foster and nurture the spirit of Magis, Cura Personalis, wellness, camaraderie, good sportsmanship, and a profound sense of community as we came together to enjoy a variety of activities.

As the torch was lit, it symbolized not only the beginning of the intramurals but also a call to action. Just as St. Ignatius called us to “set the world on fire” through a fervent commitment to noble causes, the torch lighting signified our collective mission to ignite camaraderie, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm, ensuring that the flame burned brightly all throughout.
