Got a cool surprise today while fishing!

I sight fished a Snook way back in the creek that looked way different than the typical Snook I usually catch. It had a smaller mouth, shorter body, and the dorsal fins were close together.
(1st 3 photos are of the interesting Snook. 4th photo is of a Common Snook.)

I THINK this is actually a Fat Snook. Yes, that’s actually the species name. It’s definitely not a Swordspine Snook due to the a**l fin not being super long. Also don’t think it’s a Tarpon Snook due to mouth shape.

It’s been a rough few weeks for me. I lost a good friend last week suddenly and that has been on my mind a lot recently.

Fishing hasn’t really been that great either. I’ve gone looking for Tarpon and, while I’ve been finding them a lot, I’ve struggled with extremely bad luck with them.

Today I decided to go search for Tarpon and Snook on Crane Creek. I haven’t been there in weeks, so I figured I’d see what was moving. I saw very few Tarpon. That’s been the theme lately since we’ve been getting a lot of rain. Could be more freshwater in the creeks has pushed them out or the water level has risen, etc.

Anyway, I did manage this PB today!

22in post spawn Largemouth Bass! Not sure the weight on this, but it was definitely under weight.

It was still my personal best!

If you look closely on photo 2, you can see my hand on the left of the photo about to be bitten. 🤣

A quick swing of the head was all it needed to get multiple teeth in the top of my hand and my thumb.

No pain at all though. Super sharp teeth. The video is cool!

I haven’t been posting much lately. Life has sort of gotten in the way.

Went out today to look for Tarpon and Snook. Found both, but couldn’t make much happen other than one big Tarpon that spit the hook.

I did manage to finally hook a Gar. These things are a scourge on live bait.

Actually caught 2 of them. The second one didn’t get pulled out of the water, but still got a few teeth in my hand getting the hook out even with a dehooker. 🤣
