Founded in 1981, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an inter-governmental organization with the purpose of shepherding the economic integration of the smallest Caribbean Microstates, the protection of human and legal rights, as well as the encouragement of good governance. OECS includes countries and dependencies in the Lesser Antilles and Eastern Caribbean. It provides coordination in the event of natural disaster, such as earth quakes and hurricanes. Headquartered in Castries, St Lucia, membership includes Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. There are territories with OECS observer status:
Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, and Martinique.
