BARE-KNuckle Expansion Strategies Revealed by Leaked Uber Documents: Investigation
A combined media investigation revealed Sunday that a ride-sharing app Uber's morally questionable and maybe illegal strategies were utilized to fuel the company's rapid global expansion beginning nearly ten years ago.

The investigation, known as the "Uber Files," which involved numerous news outlets, discovered that company officials used the occasionally violent backlash from the taxi industry against drivers to gain support and elude regulatory authorities as it sought to expand into new markets early in its history.

The discoveries are the latest blow to a firm beset by scandal as it deals with the release of 124,000 records from 2013 to 2017 that were originally obtained by the British newspaper The Guardian and shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

KHARTOUM (Reuters) – Anti-military protests erupted in sections of Khartoum and neighbouring Omdurman on Thursday, a week after military leaders and the previous ruling civilian coalition met to break the political impasse that has plagued Sudan since the army's coup last year.

In a statement released last week, the Forces of Freedom and Change portrayed the meeting as a step toward ending what it called a "false" political process, in keeping with its goal of eliminating the military control through a political settlement.

Following President Omar al-ouster, Bashir's a power-sharing agreement with main civilian political parties was reached in 2019.

In advance of formal negotiations with military leaders, the alliance produced a document outlining its political ideology on Thursday.

As part of its sixth sanctions package against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, the European Union finally agreed to a partial ban on Russian oil late Monday. After weeks of fighting, especially with Hungary, an agreement was reached. Hungary eventually consented, but only after effectively getting itself (and two other nations) out of the ban for the time being, thereby creating a loophole in the sanctions.

In the next six months, the majority of the European Union will impose a ban on Russian crude oil maritime supplies, and in eight months, refined oil products (such as gasoline and diesel). The EU agreed to a (theoretically temporary) exception for oil flowing via the southern Druzhba pipeline, allowing Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia to continue using the pipeline.

China and Russia blocked a US-led UN proposal to toughen sanctions on North Korea over its missile launches on Thursday, exposing differences that Western envoys fear Pyongyang could exploit.

As a penalty for testing an intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday, the US proposed a Security Council resolution that would have limited the amount of oil North Korea could lawfully buy.

The resolution was supported by the other 13 Security Council members, while several US allies privately questioned whether Washington should have gone ahead with the vote despite Beijing and Moscow's adamant opposition.

China, North Korea's closest ally, and Russia, whose relations with the West have deteriorated since its invasion of Ukraine,

XINJIANG, CHINA

A cache of leaked documents and images throws new light on the Chinese government's cruel treatment of the Muslim Uyghur minority in Xinjiang's northern province.

China is suspected of running a network of reeducation facilities in the region, forcing Uyghurs to relearn their culture and religion. Over one million convicts are required to learn Mandarin Chinese and acquire a pro-Communist Party, secular viewpoint.

According to the released documents, China has a shoot-to-kill policy for Uyghurs who attempt to flee the camps. Furthermore, the records contradict Chinese officials' stated stance that the Uyghurs chose to attend the centers voluntarily.

Striking Ghanaian school cooks are demanding a year's back pay and a higher feeding allowance. Caterers attribute rising prices to the conflict in Ukraine. Until the concerns are rectified, millions of children will go hungry.
At the beginning of May, members of the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP) went on strike.

To protest unpaid wages and demand more government money to pay for school lunches, school cooks who make students' meals dumped their cooking instruments.

Because of the prolonged strike, millions of students are going hungry — at least until the government caves in to the demands of the striking caterers.

A Filipina entrepreneur has started a company that pays students to learn using cryptocurrency.
Proof of Learn, according to co-founder and CEO Sheila Lirio Marcelo, aspires to make education accessible internationally and has raised $17 million so far.

"As you complete courses, we'll give you money," she told ANC's Headstart. "You can turn those rewards into cash or crypto to learn advanced courses."

MetaCrafters.io is Proof of Learn's first project, a "part game, half learning platform" in which student developers, or Crafters, are charged with learning Web3, or decentralized apps that run on blockchain, or a system of recording information that is impossible to hack.

According to British military intelligence, Russia has likely lost a third of its ground forces in Ukraine, and its offensive in the Donbas region has "lost momentum and fallen far behind schedule."

"Despite some small-scale early triumphs, Russia has failed to secure major land gains over the past month while maintaining consistently high levels of attrition," the British defense ministry tweeted.

"Roughly a third of Russia's ground combat force committed in February has already been lost."

According to the analysis, Russia's rate of advance is unlikely to increase much in the next 30 days.

China has used lockdowns, mass testing, and travel restrictions to combat infections under its zero-COVID policy.
