Boat Day is what we call it, when the big boat (a 42' seiner) comes out of the water. That's today and what a relief! That doesn't mean all the work is done yet, just the "big" stuff. Next we strip the boat of electronics, clean and dry the whole thing, then tarp and seal it for winter. Whew!

**STATEMENT BY Native Peoples Action, FIRST ALASKANS INSTITUTE AND Native Movement**

As Indigenous people, we are born with innate intergenerational love and respect for our people, all walks of life and beings in the natural and spiritual world. We are taught that we carry responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of one another, and that we must follow through with this responsibility in community as our people have done for generations. We are protectors.

This country was built on stolen lands, on the backs of stolen people, and deeply entrenched racism has wrought devastation in our Black and Indigenous communities throughout the generations all the way up until today. Racism, in all insidious forms, pervades our systems and society - and it quite literally kills us. Black and Indigenous men, in particular, are disproportionately targeted and harmed by law enforcement. The harm and loss of our precious, beautiful, deeply valuable men - our fathers, uncles, brothers and sons - is and has been in a state of emergency for far too long.

Enough Is Enough.

We stand in solidarity and support of our Black and Brown brothers and sisters pushing the front lines against racism, systemic oppression and brutality. The horrifying realities of injustice are not new and together we recognize and honor our responsibility to be true allies - to raise our voices, stand together in support, and bring direct and safe visible action and change. We speak truth to power against racism, inequity, and the continued brutality and criminalization - we demand justice and accountability for true systems change. We seek people from all diverse backgrounds to stand against the injustice and violence that is being perpetuated.

We lift up the lives of loved ones who never should have been taken from us in such tragic and violent ways. We uplift the families and loved ones across the nation who continue to mourn and heal. We collectively grieve the loss of how much stronger and brighter our world could have been had our loved ones been able to live out the fullness of their potential.

Together we make a call for action and accountability. Together we rise.

I had to go for groceries yesterday so I decided to add some bling to my mask. I received several nice compliments :) What do you think? This is not a mask but a covering for a real mask.

Hi Quilters, if you have heard about the earthquakes in Anchorage this morning I want you to know that my daughter Sarah and her family are fine, with minor damage to their home and business. Tom and I missed the whole event by being in Arizona. Wish we were home to help our friends though.

I am back in Alaska - YAY! I had a wonderful trip, without any mechanical problems and for a major part of the way I had the road to myself for hours at a time. It was unbelievable! I drove through ice, sleet, rain, snow and beautiful clear sunny skies!. I met some new people, stayed with a wonderful friend and saw deer, elk, black bears, brown bear, caribou, goats, a sheep, bison, marmots, moose, porcupine, a coyote, swans, and rabbits :) Gee it's great to be back home. I still can't believe I drove the RV 3,740 miles by myself! The pic is coming into Teslin, Yukon Territory, Canada.

I'm headed down some interesting roads soon, and I hope they are not difficult, but if they are I'm going to remember this!

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. Keep your eye on the target.

Hehehe. I've applied to Google for some Google Glasses :) Now I need someone riding shotgun from Las Vegas to Anchorage to video the trip!

30/03/2014

I've been testing stabilizers and the results surprise me. The "cheap" stuff is producing better results than the expensive stuff.

25/03/2014

I flew home to Anchorage for a month+ and I'm looking for a place to rent so I can make some quilts and do some photography. If you know of anyplace available for a short time please let me know. I'll begin the drive north in the RV in May :)

07/03/2014

After living in the RV for a year I've learned just what's useful and what stuff I'll never use or need. I'm spending the weekend sorting what I'll need next for winter. I'll leave the 'next winter' stuff in AZ so that it's here when I fly down and either buy a smaller RV or maybe a house. In May I will drive this RV north, live in it for part of the summer and then sell. It's been a great home but it's too big for just me. I'm ready to scale back :)

Can you believe it? I finally did it - pulled out the pressing pad and iron and got to work on a quilt project in the RV. Turns out that the stove is the perfect height! I might even do some fabric cutting! Thank you Judy McCall for the pillowcase cover for my ugly old pressing pad!

27/11/2013

I'm settled down for a little while in Ft. Mohave, AZ at the home of some friends. I'm so grateful to have a home (even if it is an RV) and friends who are happy to see me! Wishing you a safe holiday.

From my booth at the Rainier Show - what fun that was!!

17/10/2013

I'm leaving Rainier, WA on Friday but not going far, just about 100 miles to visit another friend. Saturday morning I'll take off, headed for Pahrump, NV and taking my sweet time about getting there :) Hello sunshine, I'm headed your way!

04/10/2013

Made it to Rainier, WA and sitting in the driveway of my friend Penny's sister's house. I'll be meeting their quilting friends tomorrow and then Penny, her sister Judy, and I will have a week together to sew, chat and work on some projects. HEAVEN!! I am SO glad to be out of the driver's seat and kudos to RaNae Merrill for being a SUPERB travel companion for this journey :)

I am the author of the best selling book "Crazy Shortcut Quilts" and several other quilt books.

I have created a site that strives to help quilt guilds adapt to these difficult times. It started as a place to connect traveling quilt teachers with the guilds that want to hire them (for free). It’s now become the best source of information for guilds on transitioning to virtual meetings and for finding teachers who have made the transition to online teaching. Please visit - www.quilters-calendar.com
