Naphtali Press Special Editions enters its third year and has begun taking sponsorships for 2021-22 titles. See at the link. NPSE relies on sponsorship to make the creation of texts (translations, transcriptions of never before published puritan manuscripts, new critical editions of presbyterian, reformed, puritan books, etc.) which are then published and distributed by Reformation Heritage Books. This third year we are seeking to complete the third and final volume of the 3 volume set of James Durham's Lectures on Revelation, a second volume of the shorter works of George Gillespie, the publication of the translation of Gisbertus Voetius' Of the Sabbath and Feast Days, and possibly even a bonus volume! Sponsors receive recognition in the sponsorship section of each book, a copy of each book published for 2021-22, the custom sponorship bookplate and other items based on the level of support. The promotional at the link explains the NPSE concept and the various levels with quick pay links and links to the NPSE store that offers payment plans. The more sponsors NPSE can amass, the more complicated projects we can tackle. https://eomail1.com/web-version?p=ff92feb3-2cf6-11ec-96e5-06b4694bee2a&pt=campaign&t=1634220132&s=64da59cfa67445ad6859f3b9dbc24f0435c4b651473a207381779467600438e2

The sponsorship drive is ongoing for Naphtali Press Special Editions 2020-21. You can read all about it at https://www.naphtali.com/npse-2/npse2/; sponsors get all the books projected for 2020-21 and recognized in print in the front of each volume and custom book plates. There is also a sponsorship level specifically for the translation costs for Gisbertus Voetius on the Sabbath and Holy Days, which is a very important work that has never been translated into English. You can help by formally becoming a full translation sponsor (you can spread sponsorship payments over 3, 6 or 12 months) at the link above and receive all 2020-21 titles, etc., or give as little as $10 to a separate donorbox fundraiser https://donorbox.org/npse if you would like to help get the Voetius into print, and if supporting for at least $50 (USA) reserve a copy to be sent upon publication. We successfully published three books for 2019-21 (https://www.naphtali.com/npse-2/npse1/); help make it possible for NPSE to continue with a successful 2020-21 and another three titles including the ambitious translation of Voetius. You support small or large can help make it happen. NPSE is copublished with Reformation Heritage Books.

Attached is an ad for the three titles for our first year 2019-20. Direct links to the three in print titles from our 2019-21 successful launch year are at https://www.naphtali.com/npse-2/npse1/. The NPSE second year could use all the support it can get to fully fund the production of the 2nd volume of Durham on Revelation (of 3), the first volume of critical texts of the shorter writings of George Gillespie, and the first English translation of Gisbertus Voetius's work on the Sabbath and Feast Days, from the classic Dutch Second Reformation perspective. Sponsors receive all volumes produced in the sponsored year and are recognized in the sponsor section of each volume and other perks based on level of support. "We are pleased to announce James Durham’s “Lectures on the Book of Revelation” vol. 1 is now available. This volume is the first of three projected volumes. It comprises a third of the lectures and fully half of the theological essays. The text covers chapter one in nine lectures (the most on any chapter) and the letters to the seven churches in Asia. The theological lectures contained cover such subjects as the doctrine of the Trinity, a call to the ministry and qualifications for the ministry, church government and church discipline, repentance, the difference in common and saving grace, and preaching and application in preaching. The text has been collated with a 1653 manuscript, and an appendix contains texts and full lectures that are significantly different than the published edition of 1658." https://www.facebook.com/heritagebooks.org/posts/3046194302105068

“Inside the cover of his personal copy of Christ Crucified, 19th-century preacher C.H. Spurgeon wrote two words: “Much prized.” In these 72 sermons, Durham patiently and carefully walks verse-by-verse through the great OT prophecy of Christ. His aim is not merely exegesis or theology, but rich application. He wants us to experience the Cross, and he moves the reader frequently from doctrine to application.” – taken from a review by Tony Reinke. Follow the link below to read the rest!

"Nicholas Bownd’s work, The True Doctrine of the Sabbath, occupies a hugely significant place among Puritan works on polemical and practical divinity. For its scope, detail, and erudition, this work on the Sabbath is unparalleled in the Puritan tradition—indeed, perhaps even in the Christian tradition. Particularly illuminating are Bownd’s “spiritual exercises,” which clearly had an influence upon the later Puritan attitudes regarding the practical implications of Sabbath-keeping and worship. As an added bonus to the content of this book, the editorial work on this book is first-class, and makes for far more enjoyable and easier reading than a simple re-print.” — Mark Jones, coauthor of A Puritan Theology: Doctrine for Life and Minister at Faith Vancouver Presbyterian Church

“there is nothing which any way pertains to the worship of God left to the determination of human laws, beside the mere circumstances, which neither have any holiness in them, forasmuch as they have no other use and praise in sacred than they have in civil things, nor yet were particularly determinable in Scripture, because they are infinite.” English Popish Ceremonies, To all the Reformed Churches (2013), p. 16. http://www.naphtali.com/store/products/

After 1660 Gillespie’s works essentially dropped from view except for a couple of printings of his 111 Propositions of church government. When the Free Church formed in 1843, it was seen that many of the issues Gillespie addressed in his works two centuries prior, were again at the forefront of controversy. William M. Hetherington, who had founded the Free Church Magazine in 1844, issued under his editorship that same year, a fairly complete edition of Gillespie works in the 3 volume series The Presbyterian’s Armoury (a third volume contained among other pieces, Rutherford’s Lex Rex). Two volumes worth of Gillespie material were issued in pieces with separate title pages (the portions were bound by the purchaser so originals will vary in makeup, completeness, order of parts, etc.) with the last parts coming in 1846. With Gillespie’s major works back in print it was not long before his thoughts were once again influential in Presbyterian writings. The above quotation from Gillespie was famously picked up by John L. Girardeau (Instrumental Music in the Public Worship of the Church, 1888), and then in manuscript but omitted from the published text, by John Murray in a report on the regulative principle to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church which is one of the events that marks the resurgence in US Presbyterians at least, of recovering their biblical principles of worship (“Report of the Committee on Song in Worship, 1946, see the transcript of Murray’s draft in The Confessional Presbyterian v11, 2015, p. 8). For a fairly significant survey and review of how the RPW came to be prominent again in Presbyterian and Reformed literature see Frank J. Smith with Chris Coldwell, “The Regulative Principle of Worship: Sixty Years in Reformed Literature”, Part One (1946–1999), Part Two (2000–2007), in CPJ volume 2 (2006) and volume 3 (2007). http://www.cpjournal.com/contents-by-issue/

Currently all issues except for volume 1 (2005) remain in print and available for purchase.
