Six years and half ago, I had the privilege to spend an afternoon with one of the greatest heroes of Jamaican music, Sir Ernest Ranglin OD. He welcomed me into his house and we recorded lead guitars on two instrumental songs as part of my ROOTS ARCHITECTS project. The first song is out today on all streaming platforms and on 7" vinyl. It’s called ‘MEMORIES OF OLD’ and features more Jamaican heroes: Fil Callender (drums), Jackie Jackson (bass), Winston Bo P*e Bowen (guitar), Bongo Joe (kette), Tyrone Downie (organ), Vin Gordon (trombone), Glen DaCosta (sax), Lew Chang (flute) and Sting Wray (trumpet). I played the piano and Josu Santamaria overdubbed a pick guitar. Four of these legends passed away before they got the chance to listen to the final song, I hope they’d love how it sounds. The Roots Architects project is an tribute to the unsung heroes of Jamaican music and the full album will come out in April 2024.
In the meantime, you can enjoy ‘Memories of Old’ by getting your copy on or by adding the song to you top favorite playlist (link in bio)
Many thanks to all people involved, special mention to for supporting my project from day one, to for helping me to get in touch with so many musicians and to for mixing and dubbing the recordings.
