The Maison Margiela Autumn/Winter 2018 line does a fantastic job of keeping up with the brands iconoclastic and avant-garde handle. I find one of the most interesting aspects of the line to be the way the models are veiled in different sheer fabrics of varying colors and patterns. I think the way that the fabrics are layered atop one another provide an extremely striking look that adds an incredibly unique and innovative dimension to the clothing. Margiela’s use of color and the way he plays with sheer and opaque texture seems a highly pioneering technique that I believe we will start to see a lot more of, in the world of high fashion, as time goes on. Margiela’s designs are of a uniquely inventive quality and truly provide an eye-catching aesthetic filled with unconventional runway displays, novel uses of color, and modern style culminated into one stunning series.

Celest Mountjoy is the curator and creator of the instagram , which features extremely raunchy and comical prints of highly relatable human occurrences. Her work is funny, refreshing and filled with snippets of daily interactions that, I think we can all agree, everyone has experienced at some point in their lives. Her design style is a mixture of seemingly basic sketches that are then filled in using solid primary colors and sometimes animal prints; however, basic as they may appear her messages are intricate and highly thought out. As a proud graduate of Shenkar College, is a talented and dedicated designer with several aspirations to build a private brand of her own one-day. She is a thoughtful and meticulous designer who is inspired by old fashioned methods of graphic design combined with new age technologies. Nataf uses objects in her everyday life as inspiration for her designs but ultimately bases a lot of her work off her mothers aesthetic from the 80s. She is honest about her struggles as well as her successes and I think her story is a wonderful example of someone who knows that she must work hard and keep trying in order to get where she wants to go.

Within the last two years the streets of Tokyo’s ultra trendy Harajuku district has developed an ever-growing population of what the mainstream refers to as “jendaresu-kei” otherwise known has “genderless style.” The term mainly refers to biological males who blend both male and female style to create a more androgynous look. The use of bright colors and deliberate matching of accessories is meant to create a new type of male fashion that discards societal norms of masculine style and uses gender neutrality as its main melody.

Vice personel, Oobah Butler, has a particular obsession with knock off designer clothing. In his exploration of knock-offs, Butler came across one brand that especially caught his eye. The brand is called Georgio Peviani which sells knock off versions of Giorgio Armani denim. Butler took a special interest in Georgio Peviani because he was fascinated by the way the brand blatantly failed to be an accurate knock off but still maintained a large customer base. As Butler put it, “Georgio Peviani is doing everything a successful fashion designer needs to do, apart from existing.” Butler was determined to help Georgio Peviani reach his full potential so as any logical person would he decided to “become him”, take the brand to the next level, and go to Paris Fashion Week. .
