Manager - Plant Grower / Horticulturalist
Romantic Nursery is a third-generation, family-owned wholesale production nursery based at Wandin in the beautiful Yarra Valley. Established in 1986, we’ve spent decades growing top-quality plants and cultivating a team as passionate about horticulture as we are.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Production Manager with proven hands-on production nursery experience. You’ll lead and inspire a production team to grow high-quality plants, applying best practices in nutrition, irrigation, pest and disease management. This is a full-time, hands-on position, with responsibilities across 10,000m2 of covered space and 5 acres of mother stock beds.
Responsibilities
- Oversee potting and plant growing operations across a wide variety of container crops - Ensure timely and high-quality production of plants to meet set production targets - Mentor and lead a passionate production team - Implement existing and improve growing systems and processes
- Maintain top quality crop growing, irrigation, pest & disease prevention / eradication
What You’ll Need
- Proven experience in commercial plant growing (this is essential!) backed with strong industry references. - Strong knowledge of plant health, pests, nutrition, irrigation systems - Supervisory experience and a positive, proactive attitude - Passion for horticulture and willingness to learn and share knowledge

I hope you have read or started reading the March issue of the journal. It covers everything from plastic pot alternatives by Patrick Regnault to the use of tissue culture to ensure the survival of rare plants by Praful Umaretiya and a whole lot in between. John Fitzsimmons covers what plants are in for 2025, and if you are a garden designer, you may want to read Gabrielle Stannus's article titled 'How to put your design to bed'. Business owners can always benefit from our Business Coach, John Corban. Read the contents page to better understand what you could be reading. If you work with plants, this is the magazine for you.
