Dear Discography listeners,
I won't bury the lede: Discography must go on an indefinite hiatus. Please read on. I hope it won't be forever.
Hi, I'm Marc, the guy behind the microphone, research, selections, audio production, scripts, editing... basically everything but the parts that our executive producer handles for me. If you've not seen any of the rest of my social media feeds, the situation is as follows, somewhat vague, but as blunt as I can make it:
Last Friday, with less than five minutes of notice, a legal entity put my grandson (born through a tumultuous and life-threatening birth defect last year as I worked on the Black Sabbath season) under my emergency care. He's 16 months old, he's... erm, "seen some stuff" most likely (to put it nicely), he needs constant monitoring and care, and my wife and I are dropping absolutely everything we possibly can for the chance to raise him safely. He deserves this type of familial love, I am more than happy to give him everything that I possibly can, and it's the most important thing in the world to me that he receives it. Truthfully, it's the most important thing I may ever do as a human.
No matter how hard I were to try, there is no possible way to work on Discography in the manner you know it. I was on my fourth (and final) pivot to a different artist for season five - someone you'd already recognize as a listener - but seeing that a new box set just got announced that costs well into three digits, and it just isn't even financially realistic to gather all the needed research materials. (As a rule, I try very hard to not speak about releases that I can't hold and use functionally/physically on the show - I can't really know anything about the disc in question unless I muck about with it, and that's a standard I refuse to break.)
But even if that box magically appeared, the time to listen, absorb, research, write, and make it entertaining for you simply won't exist for me right now. My hands, ears, and eyes are tied. This is not the only thing under the Marc With a C moniker that will be going on indefinite hiatus, either.
Thanks to each one of you for listening. I'm intensely proud of the show, and I hope that before too long, the right time appears, and we can get back to studying those grooves together.
If you'd like to throw any support my way in an uncertain time, you can always do it at patreon.com/marcwithac, but this post isn't about money (just, usually someone asks, so I'm pre-empting the question), It's to give the story straight, as I've always tried to do.
From you? I get the story. So, for now? This is goodnight, not goodbye.
