Planning on protesting this weekend? I made you a soundtrack. Stand together, stand for love, and be safe out there!

If you’re like me, you are experiencing a mix of fear, anger, and resistance on this most odious of Inauguration Days. Well here’s a mix of fear, anger, and resistance to soundtrack that experience. Donald Trump stands for everything that Rock and Roll stands against. To all those protesting this we...

The Doors released their dark and doom-laden debut exactly 50 years ago today. Of the many unsettling moments on this pioneering 1967 release, perhaps the “Alabama Song” is the creepiest. That makes pretty good sense considering it was actually written in Germany in the 1920s. If you think Morrison’s version is kind of icky, check out the original recording. Written by legendary German opera composer Kurt Weill and sung here by his wife Lotte Lenya, “Alabama Song” cranks the ick-factor up to eleven.

Another cloudy day here in the East. Whatever the version, wish I was in California. Anyway, fun trivia here: Mamas & the Papas only sang backup vocals on the original version before recording their own smash hit.

Dear friends,
As we embark upon the long weekend, I want to wish all a happy, healthy, safe and satisfying holiday season. As a token of my gratitude to all the wonderful people in my life, here's some recycled s**t that I wrote last year.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

My family doesn't stand too much on ceremony when it comes to Thanksgiving. There is, however, one tradition that persists in my household, that is cherished, and that does take some commitment. Thanksgiving morning is time for the annual airing of A...

They say the dead rise from their graves every year at this time and wander our neighborhoods, taking selfies and posting them on Facebook.
If you’re like me, you’ll spend most of this holiday gorging on the candy that you’re supposed to be giving out to neighborhood children.
Whatever your plans, Halloween falls on a Friday this year, which means a whole weekend of costume-wearing, cavity-inducing, apple-bobbing (I know kids don’t do it anymore because it’s unsanitary but remember apple-bobbing?) fun.
Here’s a super-long, extra-scary, tooth-rotting monster mix for your All Hallows Weekend. I recommend putting this one on shuffle.
Happy Halloween!

The half-life of a Rock band seems to be of an atomic nature. Some of the greatest bands in history have only lasted a few years. The Beatles lasted only a decade before parting ways, Brian Jones drowned to death merely 6 years into what would be a 50 year plus active history for the Rolling Stones, and Nirvana made it seven years before Kurt Cobain took his own life.
This brings us to Aerosmith. After forty-one years of s*x, drugs, and rock & roll, the classic Aerosmith lineup has continued to tour and release records. That’s right, everyone in Aerosmith is still alive, by definition, and continues to identify as a member of the band. We have only identified one other Rock band (arguably two) that have held it together with their original lineup for over forty years.
Can you name a Rock band that has lasted as long or longer than Aerosmith? To qualify they must have toured or r ...

I know the answer and part of me still wants to guess that this is Weird Al Yankovic. I can assure that it is not, however. Guess Who!!!

This one’s actually in the news right now. After many years of trying, the estate of the deceased Randy California (of Spirit) has finally succeeded in getting a court to hear their case against the “songwriting team” of Page and Plant.
