My brother from another mother Victor Gerena, set me up for a 10 day photo challenge. I’ve given this task some very deep thought and I’ve come to a somewhat unfortunate conclusion. Several of the photos that bring me the most happiness are of persons who are no longer with us (except in spirit and memory). Coming up shortly is the anniversary of the passing of my dear friend Jeanne Oki. Her photo would have been among the first I would have posted. I haven’t tossed in the towel just yet, but it’s gonna take me some time. In the meanwhile, thank you Victor for keeping me in your heart, mind, and Prayers🙏🏾🙏🏾

In my humble opinion, the best parts of the Grammys last evening/ Tracy Chapman, Luke Combs duet & Joni Mitchell. Fitting that two of probably the best singer song writers in decades, getting their just rewards. Not a single curse word, nor misogynistic lyric in the pair. Both with melodies that linger and stay with you; and make you feel good all over. Try and find something like this on the Billboard top 100 today, good luck trying…

During the pandemic a few DJs myself included, started to livestream sets. This was done for the benefit of our audiences which were for the most part stuck at home. The Hustle community in particular had an interesting mix of Djs who went out of their way to produce some great programs via Twitch, Mixcloud, Restream and the like. Hats off to John Donato, Vinny T, Oscar Acevedo, Ceasar Cab, and The Harlem sessions with Bobby Mo & Tone Luva just to name a few. My Retromix was also well received and I'm thankful for the support that I received. Post pandemic the Hustle may have forgotten who was there for them when the going got tough. Now that the pandemic has mostly past, look what DJs the community chooses to support.
Talent is talent, no argument there, but when the "chips" are down who do you want in that "lifeboat" with you?
Lastly, Promoters today want to pay DJ's the same fee they paid them 15 years ago. Have you seen the price of eggs these days, not to mention gas!?! You can support who you like, as they say, you do you. All I'm asking that you should support and give credit to the people who were there for you when it mattered.
