Let me just be clear:

There is nothing wrong with having talents. In fact, I believe talent is one of the things that makes a person unique. Therefore, everyone has a talent.

But in the context of freelancing (and in every field and endeavor really), talent can only bring you so far, but not further.

This is where DISCIPLINE comes into the picture.

While talent can bring you to your destination (success) in one huge leap, discipline can do the same but with more consistency and stability (see illustration).

Moreover, discipline gives everyone a fair fighting chance. This is why discipline holds more power than talent.

Here's one, more grounded example.

I DON'T HAVE AN EYE FOR DESIGN.

But part of being an SMM is doing graphic designs for content.

So how did I pull it off?

Years and years of studying and practicing.

In other words,

DISCIPLINE.

Now if you are a VA aspirant and you are having trouble finishing the course that you took, or unable to send many applications per day.

Among many things, you may have a problem with discipline.

The unfortunate part of this is, NO ONE CAN TEACH YOU HOW TO DISCIPLINE YOURSELF.

Wait, actually there is one person who can teach you.

YOU.

So maybe start working on it.

There is a thin line between confidence and arrogance. Having a better recognition of yourself helps you identify this. Because sometimes the lack of confidence stems from not being able to know yourself.

You can't be confident with yourself when you don't know yourself enough.

Knowing yourself also helps you recognizes the services that you can provide and market to your client and even the ones that you know you can provide with given enough time and resources.

Aside from being a remote worker and having your boss oceans and oceans apart from where you are working, it is also a common knowledge that being a VA or a freelancer carries on a risk of being replaced or being let go due to under performance or failing to meet the client's or the company's expectations.

But I'll let you in on a secret.

This rule? It applies to every job.

Yep.

This is a "default" risk of working or being assigned from a task and the logic of it is actually very simple:

1. You are hired to do this task and paid for it.

2. If you can't do it, then might as well let you go and find someone who can.

Freelancing and being a VA isn't really that far-fetched and different from any jobs out there (except for the OBVIOUS differences of course). Although in some cases it can be mystified or misconceptualized (this is not an actual word though).

It also has the universal rule when taking a job

"DO NOT MESS IT UP"

Now disclaimer:

I am not the best SMM out there. Lol, I am actually way off the "standard" SMM that others may seem to be.

But this year I became part of something bigger than me. A group that aims to elevate the VA and Freelancing industry, THE BISAYA WAY.
