From a year ago Sunday.

The most important thing to remember
on a Sunday
is to leave the phone still on its counter, ignored
to look askance whenever the wall clock brims up at you
instead, bicycle calmly with arms outstretched as red dry leaves skitter forward beneath you
focus like a baby Michelangelo on every passing buttergold leaf as it flies high through the sky
should one wear three layers or just two
is brunch at 10 or 2
is it nearly evening or barely afternoon
one day a week we think of nothing except how the ivy climbs the stone wall
how the music rhymes and throttles, urbs and jellows, burps and roars, skitters and sits.
How he has a short nose that started fast and she has a long one, like a ski slope in the Fall
yes, there is always time to think about others: the war over there, the poverty here, the torture and suffering and murder that is so unnecessary. Peace must not be a product of ignoring.
What it is that we are leaving behind is notifications, being happy here yet in a rush to get there, the insecurity that makes us lean into conversations between insecure people in insecure cliques
Leave behind most of all this heart, also butter gold. For she must have it but she is not hungry yet. She may never be. And yet.
And yet. It is Sunday, and it is not time to think about The Future, it is time to sink into the salted warm bath of The Present.

My favorite hour of the day is... Any hour of the day when I'm of benefit. But, aside from that, any hour of the day when I'm most present. Genuine. That's why we love love, because we show up for tha...

I ride & own an ebike & (some) ebike riders are scary.

Heavier by a factor of 2 or more than normal bikes, fast, sometimes too fast, riders sometimes with earpods in & sometimes not signaling. There should be a speed limit & enforcement, & pedal assist only allowed on bike paths.

Ebikes are great, too, enabling far more folks to get out of big, heavy cars & trucks that do far more damage & cost the public far more in maintenance.

As a daily cyclist, what's scariest by far is those pickups with fenders higher than a 10-year-old child.

"As a hardcore city person, I thrive on the electric pulse of urban life. Yet, recently, I’ve started to feel like something was missing in my life. There was a sense of yearning, a need to sit still and just…be."

By Kelsey, who is as genuine, skilled, and graceful with her words as she is in everything she does as she goes about her day:

"Cheerful morning my Love
From the timeless desire for your head on my chest
Resting in a Springtime snowglobe of reclaimed windows and skylights
Awaiting any call from the day: the proclamation of birds and squirrels merging with the sleepsounds of our bed,
the holler of a neighbor for a morning stroll,
The rustling of an ear-perked puppy
With whom you share these gentle mornings after lastyearsloss,
Or our own stirrings of hearts
Wooden floors seducing foot as instrument
Conducting a familiar tune of creaks and firstlight yawns
Cold steps toward houseshoes
Meditate as the coffee brews
Another day sprung upon us
We both face East"

By me, a few humble words in return:

I waited so long for you,
like Winfield, alert, urgent ears perked up for the slightest signal
when, seemingly, nothing was happening.
All the while my successes and mistakes
and your joys and sorrows
braided over and under themselves.

Now our whimsical, wayward paths shall braid into one another
our laughter and banal vicissitudes
our passionate comings and farmers market goings,
our cycling travels and morning rise and shinings
our sweet dreams at night and the rest of our lives, short or long,
laid out before us like the yellow brick road: full of adventures

I can not wait to live out my days with you. And yet I am in no rush: here I have found a fellow generous communicator—accountable, witty, caring, ethical, beautiful, happily loving—here, with you, is right where I have for so many lonely years longed to be.

Saturdays have often been hard for me. They're fun, they're relaxing, they're busy with errands and friends and farmers' market...but they're also a let-down, a time to collapse, relax after a long week. Sometimes, that turns into a one-day depression, historically, for this hard-working entrepreneur. More often, it turns into barely getting out of the house for coffee, on my bike, with my dog, and then community and fresh air lift my spirits and I'm back among the living.

“I want to have a ‘good’ summer, but it won’t be centered around grand vacations or spending tons of money. There will be no hustle and bustle this year, that’s for sure. For me, it’ll be about 61 things I’d like to mindfully tick off a simple (but super-duper) list.”

Cheers to summer '24! What would you add to this list?

Mom, dad, can I move to Europe already?

I found that looking at what people did on their bikes was interesting. We noticed people rode to and from work and did their grocery shopping or shopping in general on a bike.

Happy Earth Day. It's hard to put an enthusiastic, happy exclamation mark at the end of that. And yet, much progress has been made, of late. The largest investment in climate crisis-addressing measur...

Would love to see more community policing in Boulder. Rarely if ever see Police walking around, or on bikes, getting to know our community. A positive development if used:

Police on e-bikes ~ via Boulder Reporting Lab

The Boulder Police Department has introduced an eco-friendly transportation option for officers. Costing about $8,000 each, the e-bikes are tricked out with a siren and lights, among other features. The department said it already has had "several successes" with officers patrolling on e-bikes, including incidents where they intercepted a person smoking fentanyl and seized the illegal drug, conducted traffic stops and more.

The bikes are currently active in the downtown area, but their use will soon be expanded across town.
