I started this book at Silent Book Club last week and found that I easily got through the first 100 pages of this book within that one hour of reading! It’s a quick read that drew me in right from the start, even though the chapters themselves are rather long.

Plus, when a character that seems rather irrelevant ends up being the murderer, you can’t go wrong with that “surprise” factor. I haven’t read any of this author’s books before, so now I’ll be adding them to my list!

I’m classifying this as fiction, as I don’t necessarily view it as thriller… although maybe “psychological drama” may be accurate? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway, CoHo’s newest book is a good one! I’ll admit that I didn’t love my most recent books by her, which was some of her older work, so I needed something good to feel like things were back on track. There are A LOT of trigger warnings in this book — domestic violence, mental health trauma, r**e, etc. — so I think that’s very important to know before you read this.

Anyway, I enjoyed it (although I did feel like the end was a little dragged out 😬) and it has me wondering when her next book will come out!

This book definitely felt more like horror than thriller to me… but I’ll leave it at thriller 🫣 I’ll admit that when my fiancé went to bed earlier this week while I was reading this book, I actually went upstairs with my book too because I wanted to kept reading but was a little too scared to read it while sitting by myself, in the pitch black of the downstairs of my house, at night 😂

Anyway, despite feeling a bit fearful (which seriously never happens when I read!), I REALLY enjoyed this book. At only ~270 pages, it was a fairly quick read, and I found myself easily flipping through the pages because I enjoyed it so much. If you’re looking for a suspenseful book that has an ending that you weren’t expecting, this is the one!

I’m classifying this as a thriller because there are murders and mysteries involved, but I’d say it doesn’t completely fall under the “typical” thriller category with suspense. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this one, so I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed it!

Full of family conflict and generational expectations, this book kept me on my toes! I finished it within ~4 hours, so that’s how you know it was good 😉

Finally wrapped up the last of my “Halloween” themed reads! (Decided to push off finishing the Discovery of Witches series until next year 😬)

I really liked the first book in this series, so I figured I would like this one, too. This was a good book that involved the struggles that women go through to keep their families alive and receive fair treatment, even generations later — a theme that’s still relatable to this day. It also is based in Massachusetts, which I obviously love, so it’s a fun read for all other MA peeps! 📚

I was so excited when this book was finally ready for me to pick up at the library about two weeks ago, as I had heard a lot of good things about this new release! But when I received an email on Monday saying it was due on Thursday… I knew I had to read it and read it FAST 😳 that’s what happens when you have too many books checked out at once 🤦🏻‍♀️

I categorized this book as a thriller but wouldn’t necessarily say there’s “fright” in it, although it does entail a murder, as depicted by the title 😉 and I always love a good story that involves a strained mother/daughter relationship improving.

It was a quick read, especially since many chapters were only a few pages, which I love. This is a good one to add to your list! 📝

This feels like the perfect book to review on Halloween 🎃

I had a little bit of trouble getting into this book at first, but then it captured my interest! And, as a book that involves twins as characters, I obviously could relate to it, being a twin myself 😉

This book is about a frail, elderly, ill woman — a well-known author who wrote a series of short stories about her life but has one missing — who hired a biographer to finish telling her life story as she gets closer to the end of her life. I always enjoy reading books that have some type of storyline involving some mysterious person hiring a writer to tell their story. This book is the perfect cozy read for crisp fall days!

Happy Friday! 🎉

This stack here is yesterday’s library haul 📚 I swear all of my books are always ready to be picked up at the same time 😂

This pickup will wrap up my Halloween reads for the year before I move onto holiday / Christmas books 🎄

What are you reading this weekend? ⤵️

(Excuse this photo I took in the library parking lot right before I was about to return this book and then remembered I never took a picture of it 🫣)

This is the second book I’ve read by A.R. Torre, and I really enjoyed it! It was less than 250 pages long, which is *exactly* the quick and easy read I needed after that nearly 600-page book I read prior to this 😅

In this book, the character who ended up being the killer really surprised me — I didn’t see it coming! Those are my favorite types of thrillers — the ones where you’re totally sure of who the killer is, and then you realize at the end that you were way off 🤣

If you’re looking for a fast read, I highly recommend this one. I read it in one sitting last night and I feel like it has refreshed me for all of the upcoming books I have in my TBR 😉

I’ll preface this by saying that I had no idea that this book was a series AND a TV show until I actually started reading it 😂 I also didn’t realize that it was nearly 600 pages, so I wasn’t exactly prepared for that… but I digress.

Anyhow, I love reading Halloween-themed books in October and the first half of November, so this was obviously a great fit! Plus, this book had a mix of a witch and a vampire falling in love (which is NOT supposed to happen 🫣) as well as conflict relating to daemons trying to suppress the witch’s powers… so I was intrigued. A lot of people seemed to like this book more than I did, as I feel like it could have done more to draw me in, but as I hate not reading a whole series through once I start, I will continue 😉

Genre: Thriller

I’ve read a handful of the books that Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have written together and loved them, so I was excited to read this new release written by Sarah alone! With a focus on the main character, Catherine, revealing her mom’s secret past and finding out what happened to her dad, the book was good but not necessarily a “page turner.” When I read thrillers, I absolutely love the ones that suck me in so much that I can’t stop reading them — but this one just felt okay to me.

I love the Greer & Sarah duo so I will continue reading those!

Book: Things We Left Behind (Knockemout #3) by Lucy Score
Genre: Romance
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
# in 2023: 1️⃣4️⃣0️⃣

Out of all three Knockemout books, I have to say that I probably liked this one the best. I knew that this book would be about Lucian and Sloane (although I can't remember if that's how Things We Hide from the Light ended or if I just guessed that's what would happen 🤷🏻‍♀️) so I was looking forward to FINALLY getting to know their story. Their whole "we hate each other with a burning passion" vibes in the first two books kind of got a little old if I'm being honest, but now that I know the backstory of WHY that's the case, I really enjoyed this book.

Important to note — Lucy Score published all three books within a little over a year and a half timeframe, which is so impressive to me, because these books aren't short by any means. If you haven't read this book, or this series, yet, I recommend you do!

Book: Someone We Know by Shari Lapena
Genre: Thriller
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
# in 2023: 1️⃣3️⃣9️⃣

Shari LaPeña has easily become one of my favorite authors throughout the past year! The Couple Next Door was the first book I read by her, and then I instantly added all of her other books to my "want to read" list on Goodreads. I love that her chapters are usually short, which makes me feel like I fly through reading them.

Someone We Know follows the stories of five different couples / individuals after a woman gets murdered and a teenage boy has been caught sneaking into neighbors' homes to hack their computers. All five of these couples / individuals are intertwined in some way, and it's interesting to see how they all try to figure out who murdered the woman. Personally, I didn't expect the murderer to be who it was 👀

Perfect book to read on a cool October evening!
