National Vote Out Incumbents
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS ARTICLE WRITTEN BY OUR OWN JON COLSON WHO HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE TEA PARTY TRIBUNE STAFF. HIS TAKE ON THE FUTURE OF THE TEA PARTY ALSO REFLECTS MY ATTITUDE AS WELL. ~Benghazi~MLB
I see a lot of political pundits saying that the losses in Kentucky, Oregon and Pennsylvania show that the TEA Party movement is dead. I see people calling this a sweep of the TEA Party. I say, take a closer look.
Mitch McConnell won with a wide margin. This is true. A margin of 24.3% is quite a shellacking. On the other hand, when you look at McConnell’s margin of victory in 2008, it was a margin of almost 72%. That was not the percentage of the vote he took in 2008, that was the margin. He pulled over 86% of the vote.
In Oregon, it was similar. The TEA Party candidate lost by 12.7%. In 2008, the liberal incumbent won by over 71%.
In Pennsylvania, this year’s margin was 18%. In 2008, 28%
In Idaho, the margin of victory for Governor Butch Otter was 7%. The governor has enjoyed margins of 28% and 49% in his previous two elections.
The list of elections that were very close and closer than previous primaries is extensive.
Couple that with the fact that those who were against serious challengers from TEA Party backed candidates seemed to have two things in common.
They all portrayed themselves as far right wing as they could with a straight face, such as McConnell holding up a rifle at many rallies and,
They used extreme tactics, such as Governor Otter demanding that two candidates who did not qualify for the debate were included or he would not be there. This not only turned the debate into a joke, but also cut the amount of time that he would have to answer for his record in half.

No, my friends, the TEA Party is not dying or losing influence. Do not believe what the media tells you and do not let emotions steer you to that conclusion. The fact is that you cannot turn a battleship on a dime. The Republican party has been going left for a long time. It will not turn back to its conservative roots quickly. This is not a sprint, it is a long distance race. They changed the face of government once. United we can do it again.
