UGC Framing Easier norms for tie-ups
with foreign institutions
University Grants Commission (UGC) has come forward to frame new easy regulations for
the Indian educational institutions to tie up with foreign educational institutions more easier.
This endeavour on the part of UGC will, undoubtedly strengthen and increase joint
collaborative attempts between institutions which will also help ‘internationalise’ the
curricula of Indian educational organisations. Indian institutions had no such engagement
available under the previous UGC regulations. Now, Indian institutions seeking
collaborations with institutions abroad can directly apply with the UGC online. It is learnt
that under the new norms, the processing of the proposals for collaborations will also be
much faster as it has also been made mandatory for the UGC to dispose the application in 60
working days. These new guidelines will enable the Indian students aspiring to study abroad
to get foreign education by studying partly in India and partly abroad. This option will be
obviously much cheaper than doing the entire course in a foreign country. In a way, this
initiative of the UGC will bring the international education at the doorstep of Indian students.
Moreover the Indian institutions will be able to collaborate to innovate with the latest
techniques, systems being used in foreign institutions to improve the quality of Indian
education. This move of the UGC will go a long way to contribute towards the government
vision to expand the horizons and strengthen the education system internationally.
