So, I’ve decided on the top 5 books I read in 2018:
1) The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty: If you’ve seen the movie you get the gist, but the novel contains more that couldn’t be done on screen. Creepy and unsettling!
2) The Godfather by Mario Puzo: Again, if you’ve seen the movie you get the gist. The writing is so beautiful and there is even more to the plot than the film reveals. As long as this novel is, I was sad that it was over.
I have a tie for number 3!
3) Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin: Believe it or not, I hadn’t seen the movie until after I read the novel, and I much prefer the novel. It was almost as creepy as The Exorcist. Plus, I’m all about witches, so this was a great fit for my tastes.
3) The Venus Complex by Barbie Wilde: Barbie played the Female Cenobite in Hellraiser II and I got to meet her and have her sign my book at ScareFest. This book is a personal journal of a serial killer’s development. It was brilliant and disturbing!
4) The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker: Barker is my favorite author (King can’t hold a candle to him imho). This is the book upon which Hellraiser is based. It is beautifully written with many disturbing images.
5) Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell by Paul Kane: This is a crossover novel pitting Holmes and Watson against Barker’s cenobite demons. It was so interesting and filled with nonstop action.
I highly recommend these books for anyone who loves to read. I’m hoping to find even more books that I really love in 2019! Happy reading and be prepared for the sequel to On Devil’s Wings coming in 2019!!!
