NewFronts: Hulu Says Goodbye to the Plus, Hello to Jerry Seinfeld

Hulu's pitch is that the brand is all about t.v.; a paid service chock full of commercials and a slate of mostly sh*tty movies -- yep, that's t.v. alright.

(editor's note: Hulu does have The Criterion Collection featuring a bevy of badass Akira Kurosawa films, including my favorite, Yojimbo. Yes, they get our money. How's about you bastards amp up your Anime selection, huh?)

CEO Mike Hopkins announced in New York that Hulu has seen 50 percent growth in subscribers to nearly 9 million.

American Pastoral Trailer (2016)

Ewan McGregor's directing debut here and I find myself asking, 'Is there anything this guy DOESN'T do well?' (Star Wars prequels don't count -- be fair)

A cover of a cover of a Tears for Fears song seems an odd choice -- it's a terrific song but this version's only difference seems to be there's a woman singing; I'm not against that, it just seems.. odd. I feel Gary Jules' version was terrific for it's sparseness and atmosphere, this feels slightly overwrought - but, also cheaper than paying to use either previous version of the song so maybe it was a budgetary concern?

Still and all, I can't wait to see this film.

Star Trek Beyond Theatrical Trailer (2016)

This looks quite interesting, however, it doesn't 'seem' like a Star Trek story; no offense to Justin Lin but this seems an odd direction to take the series -- however, you can't judge a film until you've seen it so I suppose only time will tell.

I will say the song played over the trailer was a nice touch, very poignant and haunting -- shame it had vocals, sorry Ri-Ri :(

It's logical to assume that since the film adaptation of Marvel's relatively obscure property Guardians of the Galaxy was successful, there could be a market for more obscure titles; a tsunami-like near tidal surge of content, if you will.

DC, being DC, chose 'Su***de Squad'; this means a new Joker, probably not the best idea, I thought - until I saw the promo photo of Jared Leto as Joker.

Now I'm sure it's a bad idea. But it has Will Smith, so it has that against it also - maybe cast Jayden as Robin and just sink this thing entirely?
