Listen to Planet of Sound - [09/06/2020] by Ben O'C Radio

14/04/2020

Having been off the air for about a month since Flirt FM closed due to the current situation, I decided to finally join the necessary craze of "remote radio". So I'm happy to say that 'Planet of Sound' will be back on the air tonight at 9pm.

A new time slot, a more "rustic" approach, but more of the same great music.

Tonight, in order to embrace the back-to-basics sound of my makeshift studio I am dedicating the entire hour to music played from vinyl, from vintage originals to modern re-issues. So although this show will be a little different, I can still say that there will be a great selection of music, both old and new.

Galway listeners can tune in to Flirt FM 101.3 at 9pm to listen in, I will later post the show to Mixcloud so anyone can listen back at their leisure. Hope ye enjoy the music!

On this once-off Saturday broadcast, airing on the penultimate day of the Galway International Arts Festival 2019, I am joined by Marieke Huysmans, the artist behind the musical project "Pianocean".

Pianocean is a unique project in which all of the music is written, performed, and even recorded on a Freedom 40 sailboat. The boat sails the seas, docking in various parts of the world for Marieke to perform free live shows from the boat, to the local people listening from the docks.

Marieke and her crew docked in the Galway harbour for the duration of the Arts Festival and beyond, and performed for audiences almost every day. Listen here to learn more about how the Pianocean journey began, and where it will go from here.

Delighted to have won the award for "Best Alumnus Show" at the FVA's this year, considering all the great shows on Flirt FM it certainly is an honour!

I believe my best shows have always been those featuring guests so I want to thank all the great artists who have appeared on the show, artists such as A Lilac Decline and Paper Moon, I'm certain those recent interviews and sessions are mainly to thank for this award.

Big thanks to everyone who has tuned in! I'll be back on air Monday at 11pm.
