After finishing the first sketches for my latest commision, I'm now ready to start composing the work in June. The symphony will have 4 movements, making it the biggest and most intricate work I’ve ever written - making it quite scary and exciting at the same time. More news to come later in the year. Watch this space!

This is an one of the Multiple Field Sketches which was premiered at the International Composers Festival 2022. Conductor: John Andrews, Leader: Adrian Charlesworth.

"England has a wonderful folk tradition including Morris Dancing, Jack-in-the-Green and May celebrations, all of which are celebrated in this piece. I love hearing the jangling bells the Morris dancers wear on their ankles and the bouncy and slightly lopsided rhythms they produce while dancing. These performances, more often than not, take place outside a public house, which adds extra ‘jollity’ to the dance. In fact, the fast middle section of this piece was inspired by my friends at the Prince Of Wales at Green Tye, whose jollity knows no bounds.

The Maypole is found throughout Europe and the world and has ribbons fastened at the top which form patterns as people weave in and out of each other around the pole. Jack-in-the-Green is an 18th century English folk tradition. The Jack is a person waring a wooden or wicker frame adorned with foliage who takes part in a procession, often accompanied by musicians."

Recorded on 22nd May at the De La Warr Pavillion, Bexhill-on-Sea. Many thanks to the members of the orchestra and the entire festival team, including the artistic director, Polo Piatti and director of operations, Sandra Goodsell who put in so much work to ensure that the festival was a great success. This performance was danced to beautifully by the wonderful Eastbourne Academy of Dancing.

We are extremely proud to be able to say that the 5th International Composers Festival has been a resounding success and would like to thank everyone who played a part in this.
We feel humbled at the efforts our musicians, singers, composers and speakers made to get here, many of whom traveled from across the globe to be with us and at considerable cost to themselves.
We would especially like to thank our conductor John Andrews, orchestra leader Adrian Charlesworth and all the musicians for the amount of work, dedication, time, and enthusiasm they put into this, especially with really tough and exhausting schedules.
A huge thank you to our many dancers, especially the Eastbourne Academy of Dancing and to St Richard's Catholic College Choir. We truly appreciate the amount of work that was carried out prior to the festival and the logistics of bringing so many young people to the De La Warr Pavilion.
We would also like to thank our enthusiastic audiences for creating a very special magical atmosphere. We will never be able to thank you enough for helping to make the festival possible.
Everyone involved in this event showed what can be done when music is allowed to stir powerful emotions and in doing so, bring people from around the globe together, sharing a very intense and beautiful occasion that most of us will remember and treasure for the rest of our lives.
