I've been waiting for a sporty hybrid and Hyundai has one, but, the ingredients are in three cars. The is the closest despite being the oldest platform. 👍 handling, 👍 tyres, a Rorty engine note, and 7spd DCT make for a sweet package, but it's the least accomplished in the hybrid stakes. 7l/100kms when you're having fun is good, but not 5.5 good as per i30 4door. Kona is too heavy & soft to be considered sporty. It's a nice SUV, but a Jedi seeks not these things.
Both the sedan and Kona have the right idea, with a larger electric assistance, but miss out on an extra gear (6spd DCT) and as a result, work the NA1.6 harder and it doesn't sound like it's having a good time. So where's the win? Put the 1.5 turbo +7DCT combo and NLine suspension into the sedan with the larger hybrid electric setup, aiming for around 160kw and 270nm combined. That would be progress. Currently, each variant is focused on efficiency without any performance gain. Why would anyone want to spend more money for less power?
While we're talking the art of the possible, just stick the 1.6T hybrid AWD from the Tucson straight into the Kona. There's no reason the one that looks the most like a spaceship should be the slowest.
