If you’re anything like us, then The Princess Diaries’ “ugly” high schooler to beautiful princess makeover scene probably resulted in decades of frying your hair pin-straight, overplucking your brows, and throwing your tiny, wired glasses directly into the bin 🤓⁠

Today, however, hot people everywhere seem to be reversing the plot – filling our Instagram feeds with the opposite of stereotypical “hot” dressing. For SS24, Velez’s models literally slung the stuff at each other, as they waded through piles of gloopy brown goo, slipping and sliding all over the place.⁠

The designer’s signature wraparound dresses, hung with loose tendrils and strap detailing, corsetry, and rough-hewn tailoring all trailed through the mud and transformed as the show wore on – it was, she explained backstage, a statement on how being a woman is rarely a clean or easy experience that comes out smelling of roses.⁠

After closing up its legendary Jeremy Scott era, ’s SS24 runway invited four stylists to sift through its campy, irreverent archives and design a mini-collection for a new gen of fans 💫⁠

As part of 's five-part blockbuster paying homage to its founder Franco Moschino, this season debuted France’s , America’s , China’s , and the UK’s — each of which re-interpreted classic looks from Moschino’s first decade [1983 to 1993] for today. ⁠
⁠
Dudzeele’s collection drew inspiration from her ten years working alongside Scott, Karefa-Johnson flipped commonly-known symbols of white masculinity, Liu’s act opted for a romantic, flowy take on the brand, and Katie Grand focused on Moschino’s loud approach to luxury – emblazoning slogans and pop art-style graphics.⁠

, , , and Frank, Donnie Darkos’s nightmare nemesis with a penchant for turning up in a demonic bunny costume. No, we’re not floating our dream blunt rotation (haha, unless…). So what unites this unlikely cast of characters? Today, Frank became the latest to star in his very own campaign.⁠

In an announcement shared via Instagram, the label says that the campaign was shot by photographer at the sci-fi film’s original shooting locations across Los Angeles, including homages to the iconic exchange at the Aero movie theatre. Kelly himself also returns to oversee the art direction.⁠

Analysis of SS24 womenswear shows by Vogue Business found that of 9,584 looks across 230 shows and presentations in New York, London, Milan and Paris, just 0.9% were plus-size (above a US 14 or UK 18) and 3.9% were mid-size (US 6-12 or UK 10-16).⁠
⁠
While there are some signs of nascent change – Balenciaga, Ferragamo and Mugler entered the top rankings for the first time – the findings paint a grim picture, with major luxury brands lagging far behind smaller, independent brands.⁠

As always, Do’s distinct eye for silhouettes and structure came through by subverting classic suiting into something delightfully unexpected. Blazers and white shirting trailed long below the models’ waistlines and came cut-off at the arms, leather jackets were sculpted with high, pointed shoulders and strung together around the waist, and classic suit trousers came with swinging mini-skirts over top or draw-string shorts tucked inside.⁠

Think girls can’t fight? Sukeban, a new Japanese women’s wrestling league, had its world premiere in New York, proving once and for all that women can throw hands just as well as men, while looking twice as cute. ⁠

Although women’s wrestling – known as “Joshi” – has been popular in Japan for decades, the event brought the sport-slash-performance-artform to an eager new audience who, for the most part, did not know what they had been missing. ⁠

For ’ SS24 show, were commissioned by creative director Jonny Johansson to fashion a “chemical, mechanical, upbeat and harder” soundtrack for the house’s industrial collection.⁠

The end product? A brooding pre-show soundtrack leading into a choppy, metallic banger powered by a monomaniacal kick drum, exactingly clipped hi-hats and a full vocal range of unhinged pitched vocals droning in and out.⁠

After approximately 3,478 days and 10,894 shows, the SS24 womenswear season drew to a close in Paris. ⁠
⁠
With the luxury fashion market hit hard by the same economic instability we’re all facing right now, the whole thing played out as an ode to Really Nice Clothes. There was loads[!] of stuff you’d really want to buy, but perhaps less of a focus on the avant-garde – the kind of stuff that makes you dream. That’s not to say it was anywhere close to boring, though. In fact, this return to craftsmanship and construction felt like a welcome relief after years of dedication to meme-worthy fashion and show gimmicks designed to set TikTok on fire.⁠

At its recent Milan Fashion Week show, seemingly looked to the aquatic and sent a smack of jellyfish dresses floating down its SS24 runway. But now, always keen to keep us on our toes, Mrs P and Raf Simons are turning their attention away from the ocean, and looking firmly towards the skies 🚀⁠

The Italian house has just announced that it’s teaming up with space wear developer .space to design NASA’s next-gen lunar spacesuit. The suits will be used for ’s Artemis III mission, which is set to head to the moon in 2025 (the first lunar landing since Apollo 17 in 1972).⁠

It also looks like Prada is set to make history on the trip, as the Artemis mission will be the first time that a woman astronaut has headed to the moon 💥⁠

“Being the first plus-size woman to walk Balenciaga for me is huge, but I won’t forget the people who did the work” - Yseult⁠

It’s been a long time coming, but at this year’s SS24 show, the house finally sent curve models down the runway. The designer’s casting has always been major, with his awkward, stony-faced weirdos changing the shape of the industry, but until now, the outliers he enlisted to storm his catwalk never extended to anyone above a sample size. Changing that, among others, was French pop star . She explains that while walking, she was thinking of those who came before her – including Mugler and Gaultier icon , , , and .tequila, who made history as the first curve girls to walk a Versace show in 2020.⁠

Could , , and kickstart a career in today’s climate?⁠

In the 80s, broke creatives often lived in and worked from illegal squats. Stephen Jones famously occupied a disused building on Warren Street with Boy George and Princess Julia, while Galliano and McQueen (who was on the dole) both had family in London. “People can’t do that now because there’s not a single space you can use without paying rent,” / says, who will be graduating from Central Saint Martins with a BA in knitwear later this year.⁠
⁠
Part of the issue is that universities in the UK have become businesses rather than institutes of learning – their principal source of funding has shifted from government grants to tuition fees – meaning art schools like CSM rely on wealthier students to turn revenue.⁠

Swift half, anyone? 🍺⁠

It's no secret that the pub is the quintessential British institution. A stodgy constitution of everything good about this god-awful country: beer, games, s**t chat, and English tapas. No event is safe from its warm arms: christenings, birthdays, weddings and wakes are all fair game. ⁠
⁠
But once you take your CP Company style beer goggles off, things look less sunny. Fuelled by soaring rates, the cost-of-living crisis, and a reduced appetite for getting absolutely trollied, independent pubs are heading towards last orders. In the fashion world, though, something different is happening: inns are very much still in. While real pubs might be making peanuts, countless designers have tapped into the spirit of the Great British boozer, pinning pints onto their mood boards and throwing in the beer-branded bar towel for good measure.⁠

Whether it's and .studio upcycling beer mats or double parking with Stella, we explore the the Great British pub and its fair share of style moments as part of our campaign exploring the current state of the UK from the perspective of the young people who live here.⁠

Earlier last month, a swarm of art freaks descended on , an experimental show-cum-rave that challenges its guests to explore the boundaries of techno-spiritualism by putting electric chairs on the dancefloor 💥⁠
⁠
“In this particular instance, the show was positioned as a ‘conditioning event’ for the gr1n cult. A kinda mass experiment typa vibe,” its organisers explain. “We had actors go and hand out anti-gr1n fliers, protesting as if it was a real sort of occult meeting.⁠
⁠
It’s a fictitious, alternative world that makes people let loose and surrender themselves more than they might at a typical rave.” The dress code required attendees to obscure their identity and so people bandaged their faces and wore anti-surveillance make-up and gimp masks and plastic elf ears and illusory veils. ⁠

The whole thing is engineered for the kind of people who have typed the words “cyber shamanic” into Google, thinking themselves a forgotten protagonist in Serial Experiments Lain.⁠

Athletes become aesthetes: zooms into the latest edition of 🏅⁠

For certain people who live in certain cities, there is now as much social status to be found in a technical running shoe as there is in a designer handbag. Like a seamless windbreaker or a performance fleece, these are lifestyle markers that speak to well-being and leisure time away from the screen time slot machine. The athlete becomes the aesthete. Fashion is ephemeral, tray posting is forever 🍟 ⁠

Inelegant and down-market, ’s is the antithesis of Le Cordon Bleu. It’s also one of the last venues you might expect to find magazine editors during Paris Fashion Week, but season after season these people feel compelled to broadcast their McDonald’s meals to an online audience. How unexpected! And quite transgressive?⁠
⁠
This isn’t a question of why people go to McDonald’s during fashion week (they are hungry, probably!) it’s the extent to which it gets aestheticised on the feed.⁠
