TEXT WALL INCOMING.
Everyone who's listened to our latest episode is well aware of what we have planned, but for those who haven't (Shame on you), we have a big announcement to make.
Technical Earth Syndicate will be ending with our 42nd episode. Hear us out before you take to the streets and start rioting! After two amazing years of doing this show, we feel that it's time for a rebranding, a reboot of sorts. Up until now, we've mainly been a gaming podcast with a light sprinkling of science and tech news, and we feel like at this point, we're only limiting ourselves. More on that soon.
Our fans from the beginning will recall that we started out with three hosts, the third being the late and great Allen Gray Jr. Around four months into doing the show, Allen passed away from heart complications, and for some time, we weren't sure that we would be coming back from the following hiatus. We eventually decided to keep the show going, dedicated to his memory, and to keep having Allen's Tech Corner as a main part of each episode. After all the energy and life he put into this show, coming up with its name and keeping us all motivated when we felt lazy, it didn't seem fair to him to call it quits afer only 13 episodes.
Noble as our intentions may have been, keeping the podcast going in Allen's name eventually ended up having unintended negative effects on the show. We were so determined to preserve Allen's spirit that we began to stagnate. Try as we might, we've never been able to bring the same intelligence to the show as he did, and Allen's Tech Corner suffered as a result. What began as a somewhat educational segment, with a host who knew what he was talking about, became a pale imitation where we'd struggle to find mildly interesting piece of tech news and go "Yeah, that's pretty cool, hurr durr." In our eyes, that's unfair to Allen and is almost as bad as if we didn't do the show at all.
So with that in mind, we've decided to close the book on Technical Earth Syndicate and start a new podcast. One that keeps with the spirit of the old show, but brings in all aspects of nerd culture that we've neglected to cover in a misguided attempt to stick to a rigid format (The limiting I mentioned earlier). We'll discuss gaming, of course, but also comics, movies and TV, anime, board and card gaming, just about anything you can thnk of. We'll have multiple, interchangable segments that will bring some much needed entertainment value to the show. We'll have more frequent guests, game streaming events, basically we're just gonna have a sh*tload more fun with this. Allen's Tech Corner will be the only holdover from TES, but it'll be something that we save for a time when we have something worth talking about (And have done enough research to sound smart about it).
I do apologize for the huge text wall, but a big moment for our show calls for an even bigger post about it. We'll be revealing the name of our new show in the next and final episode of TES, which will be coming in the next couple of weeks, and you can all look forward to the first episode in either the last week of May or the first week of June. Don't worry, we promise it's a lot less of a mouthful and rolls off the tongue much better than Technical Earth Syndicate.
It's been a blast doing this show and we thank each and every one of you who have stuck with us and supported us from the beginning, in good times and bad, as well as any new fans we may have recently gained, and we hope you'll continue with us on this new and exciting chapter.
