Friends,
The time has come for me to say goodbye to Black Mesa Records. It has been an incredible 10 year journey and I can safely say that everything I have put out on the label I am proud of and I have put everything I can into each release.
I would like to thank, in order of signing, M. Lockwood Porter, John Calvin Abney, Anna Ash, Travis Linville, Tim Easton, Beau Jennings & The Tigers, Beth Bombara, and R.R. Williams for trusting me with their music. I cannot overstate how extremely proud I am to have helped release your music into the world. There is a dire lack of quality, original music in the world today. Together, we helped ease that absence. Thank you.
I would also like to thank my partners. Clay Pasternak at CPI for distributing our vinyl and CDs releases worldwide; Stacey Taylor at Taylor Entertainment Group for shepherding the music to the sinuous world of streaming; Jeremy Verrall at At The Helm for promoting us in the U.K.; Robbie Klanderman at Klanderman Promotions for spreading the word in Europe; and all of our radio and publicity partners domestically here in the United States (and Canada!): Wendy Brynford-Jones, Rhonda Chollock, Al Moss, Tiny Human, Lucky Bird Media, Baby Robot, Shameless, and many others across the years. Brandon Land, Joe Casey, Cole Roberts, and more for helping drive the visual aesthetic of the brand. I could not have done this without your tireless efforts.
Lastly, you. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have helped keep this alive more than any other. The fans were what this labor of love was ultimately about. The sleepless nights, the stressful end-of-month bills, the worry about the first order on a new release, it was all for you. Thank you for supporting me and my artists for the last 10 years.
While there will be no more new releases from Black Mesa Records, we are still around. Stock up on our releases and merch. These releases as they are now may go out of print (some sooner than others!). If there is a release you were waiting on, now is the time.
I again want to thank everyone that I've worked with over the last decade. I could not have possibly been able to do this without you.
Love,
Kris Payne
