Jammu & Kashmir especially Srinagar is under Flood waters ..... making it into a big Lake. Our Environment Specialist & SAJAn Ritu Asrani who is normally resident in Srinagar lost her house, belongings, money and everything.

On a call from Srinagar she mentioned he pathetic conition to Karishma Malkani of Kanyadaan. Karishma has invited her to stay with her in Mumbai once she is evacuated from there. Her parents have also offered to help her with her stay in Mumbai for 2 weeks and provide any incidentals.

I too spoke to her later and she mentioned her house is under 36 Feet of water.

I encourage all SAJAns in Mumbai to come up with ideas how we can help her practically. (Pls. Note this is not a Request for Donation)

The 45 MW Nimoo-Bazgo hydro-electric project is a run-of- the-river scheme to harness the potential of river Sindh (Indus) in Laddak (J&K) The project is designed to generate 239 million units of energy...... and has an installed capacity of 45 MW (3×15 MW).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation two hydel power projects in Leh and Kargil in Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday.

He combines in himself the forces of nature and the five elements or pancha bhutas that represent the commitment to conserving nature: air, water, earth, fire and space. Many natural forces are incarcerated in Shiva’s persona: his flowing tresses represent the forests themselves, trapping within them the mighty river Ganga, the source of perennial water and life. His vibhutti or sacred ash is the symbol of fertility, a gift of the earth. He is invariably painted or sculpted beneath one or several trees, generally the bilva. He is accompanied by Nandi the bull and, often, different wildlife, for he is Pashupati, lord of animals.
Shiva is also Bhupati, Bhuteshvara or Bhutanatha, lord of the earth

Fellow Sindhi Sajan & Environmentalist RITU ASRANI of IYCN J&K, shares with us much of their incredible environmental activism efforts in this remote region of Jammu & Kashmir in the Indian subcontinent.

One particular effort they have embarked upon, and now in their fourth year, is the 'greening up' of the Amarnath Yatra.

The Amarnath Yatra is one of the holiest of Hindu pilgrimages and in the six week period of time that it is open to Yatris (pilgrims), usually during the summer months of July and August, several hundred thousand devout Hindus make their way to the Amarnath cave.

Diminishing the environmental impact that the yearly Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage has upon the Himalayas in Kashmir, India.
