A dog named Messi, known for being a part of the film Anatomy of a Fall, stole the spotlight at the Oscars luncheon in Los Angeles.

Debra and I just finished watching THE GREATEST NIGHT IN POP on Netflix and needless to say we were transfixed. Absolutely amazing to see all the artists from the 80s all in one room. It was very sweet and actually quite suspenseful. A lot more to it than you would think. Give it a try and you will probably be as swept up as we were.

This means new product will be sparse and everyone will have a chance to revisit some of their favorite programming from the past. If you’re looking for suggestions… the first season of our web series Stunt Kitty Films’ The Portal is available for streaming now on YouTube.

Scripted TV production was up slightly in the fourth quarter compared to the prior three months, but still well below historic levels.

Happy Cretaceous Days! You may have been wondering if we added any new figures to our collection for Christmas. Well we are pleased to report we did- a Daspletosaurus from Haolonggood. The Daspletosaurus was an early ancestor of T. rex. Smaller in stature, the Daspletosaurus interestingly shared apex predator status with another T. rex cousin, the Gorgosaurus around the Judith River area of what is now Montana.

I’m hoping to work the figure into a diorama a little later in the spring. Ideas are already swirling in my head. Please check back for updates.

Also thank you to everyone who’s purchased a Stunt Kitty Films/Cretaceous Days mug to celebrate our previous scene. I Hope it makes your morning cup even more enjoyable. Get 25% off until the end of February- https://www.etsy.com/listing/1587153924/cretaceous-days-11oz-ceramic-mug?coupon=SKF25

The Golden Globes are this weekend followed a couple of weeks later by the announcement of the Oscar nominations finally in March by the Academy Awards themselves- this is my favorite time of the cinema year, but not because the whole world will be watching the much talked about nominees. No, the reason this is my favorite time of year is because this is also the time the studios release (bury?) all of their more interesting but less commercially promising productions. Case in point- WICKED LITTLE LETTERS. Looks like great fun to us. Count us in!

Small town. Big mystery. Bad language. Watch the scandalously sweary redband trailer for Wicked Little Letters starring Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley. In...

Apparently we aren’t the only ones with a problem.

Subtitles aren’t just for the hard of hearing, with Netflix reporting 40% of its viewers regularly use them. But do we just enjoy them or is there a more annoying reason?

This past Thursday Deb and I with our friend Martin Perrier attended the 25th Anniversary screening of SMOKE SIGNALS at the Ted Mann Theater at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. We hadn't seen the film in sometime and were swept away all over again by how beautifully crafted it is. In attendance were the author and screenwriter Sherman Alexie, the composer BC Smith and the director Chris Eyre who spoke afterward. Despite a very successful career, Chris seemed equally amazed by the production all these years later and very complementary to the all Native American cast and crew involved with the film. If you haven't revisited SMOKE SIGNALS lately, seek it out. It is a true national treasure.

Still scratching my head over THE MAN WHO KILLED HI**ER AND THEN THE BIGFOOT, but Deb liked it a lot. Seems like an action film from the poster, but while there is action it is more of a quiet introspective piece with a nice romance at the center. Second half involves material very prescient for 2018 a year before Covid. We watched it on Hulu+

Anyone watching A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD? It's sort of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO meets KNIVES OUT: THE GLASS ONION. Maybe more earnest and not as violent (yet) with a love story to go along. It has our attention, though I think Deb would prefer to binge it... or just skip to the end to see how it all turns out. Myself, I prefer new episodes being doled out over weeks. It gives you something to anticipate. And I am looking forward to this coming Tuesday and the next episode.

Cretaceous Days for sure! I've taken snaps of this figure before as I think he appears very content, here standing quietly in the forest clearing. It's a Pachyrhinosaurus btw from the Ceratopsian family which includes Triceratops.

Cretaceous Days are here! Today we present a snap of the large predatory bird Titanis (Kaiyodo Dinotales 6) hunting in it's natural habitat. Reaching 6 1/2 feet in height and weighing upwards of 330 lbs, there was little that threatened this "terror bird" during the Pliocene and earliest Pleistocene epochs only some 3-5 million years ago. Fossil remains have been discovered across the southern United States from Florida to California.

It's Cretaceous Days! (previously T. rex Tuesdays!) The last time we posted a photo we mentioned we were preparing an entry for the 2023 Dinosaur Toy Forum Diorama Contest which we did and are now able to present our official entry- "Tuesday Last" a Pachyrhinosaurus (Terra by Battat) and Albertosaurus (Safari Ltd. Wild Safari) crossed paths some 73 million years ago in a forest clearing in southwestern Alberta, Canada.

The contest is complete and the results are in and while we did not win or place, we believe we competed admirably among a strong group of entries. If you're interested you can view the complete field and the results at https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=11064.0 and please feel free to let us know how we stacked up to our competition in the comments below.

And if you're wondering about the name change, we recently discovered some entertainers who have been using the T. rex Tuesdays name for much longer than us so we've chosen to rebrand. The great thing about CRETACEOUS DAYS is any day can be one. 😀

One of Deb and mine's favorites. If you love old films or even newer ones like LOCAL HERO and haven't seen I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING! track it down. You won't regret seeing this absolutely charming film. And if you do watch, look for a young Petulia Clark in one of her first roles.

The story of a headstrong heroine who knows what she wants, but is waylaid by the elements and an unexpected romance is one of the most lovable films in British cinema history

We've been wanting to see THE CREATOR for a while now, despite the meh reviews. We finally had our chance yesterday afternoon and Deb and I found ourselves thoroughly engaged in the sci-fi action adventure. In the film, John David Washington is a special ops soldier tasked with finding and killing the master creator of A.I. which appears to be waging war against humans. The visuals are amazing (demanding a big screen), the core performances are very good, and we thought the story was quite compelling despite the well documented plot holes, etc. We think even casual viewers of sci-fi will find something to like in this quite spectacular original adventure made for the big screen.

Finally, THE CREATOR. We wanted to see it opening day, but things got in the way. So better late than never. You don’t w...

Deb and I started our Halloween season off right with an early screening of the new Agatha Christie mystery A Haunting in Venice by Kenneth Branagh. We both agree there was plenty of atmosphere and fun performances to make for a very thrilling who done it. And enough jump scares to keep your heart racing throughout.

It's T. Rex Tuesday! But as I'm still hard at work on my latest batch of photos which I hope to begin presenting in a week or two, I thought this clip from arguably one the greatest films of all time might satisfy your paleontological hunger for the week.

When colorized versions of old black and white films were first introduced many years ago there was a lot of push back from film purists who insisted films remain unaltered from their original presentation. I was always a little more flexible on the subject. Anything with in reason to bring a bigger audience to the old classics was a good thing, I figured. Besides, who's to say given his druthers, Merian C. Cooper wouldn't have wanted to film King Kong in color. The process has gotten better over the years, with AI lending a hand I'm sure. And as you can see the latest results are quite beautiful.

What a brilliant reminder to (re)watch Stunt Kitty Film's The Portal web series on YouTube. We did ourselves a few weeks back and had a great time. Our cast members were across the board brilliant. And with some distance, we were amazed to see how well the clues are woven together.

If it's Tuesday, there must be T. rexes! But that's not all. Today I share a photo with the local competition for Cretaceaous apex predator- Deinosuchus. Deinosuchus is a genus of alligatoroid crocodilian, related to modern alligators and caimans who lived during the same period as T. rex and in much of the same locales. The largest grew to be 35 ft in length and were known to be dinosaur killers. ***Update- it's been brought to my attention that Deinosuchus went extinct a few million years before the appearance of T. rex. But it was a contemporary of the tyrannosaurid theropod Albertosaurus ***
