When it was my turn to walk down the aisle, I’d been lucky enough to interview hundreds of newlyweds about their wedding planning advice.

Their candid sharing of what they’d do the same and differently if they could hit replay on their big day helped my partner and I decide what we wanted for our celebration.

Now I’d love to return the favour by sharing the biggest learnings from my own wedding planning.

Did you catch this on TikTok? Please don't be a Cody - read our guide on how to write your own wedding vows!

Look, we get it. When you find it hard to put your feelings into words, and even harder to share them with a crowd of people, it can be easy to default to humour.

And while we're all for sprinkling in some lighthearted moments that show the fun you have together, too many jokes can make it seem like the whole thing is a joke.

It's hard to be vulnerable, especially in public. But if there's one time to tell your partner what they really mean to you, it's on your wedding day in your vows. It doesn't need to be poetic to be perfect, it just needs to be personal. And if Cody had taken a few minutes to reflect on what he loves most about his beautiful bride, it would've been a cherished moment instead of a viral one.
