OIL066 - Atusji - Slowboat til Asakusa

Today, we're releasing Atusji's third album, Slowboat til Asakusa. Terkel Atsushi Røjle (Atusji) grew up in Japan and the album title refers to a canal boatride that his family and a family they were friends with used to take together. When Terkel's family moved to Denmark, the two families' paths diverged and the thought of the different routes that life takes has become a prism through which to look at culture and mind; the different ways we deal with identity and with loss.

It's a beautiful album and we're happy to finally share it with you

Rumour, and this concrete photographic evidence, suggest that Atusji is in GAFFA Danmark, but you *should* do your own research: We have, once or twice, used a program called Photoshop to manipulate images for our own nefarious purposes on this page.

Atusji - Breath of the Wild (A World with You) is out today! 💚There's a link to it in the comments, where the mighty algorithms of meta might look favourably upon it and rise this post into the high heavens of online visibility.

'Breath of the Wild (A World with You)' is a love song. On this track, Atusji gives in to the cuteness that has always lurked in their musical universe. The song is loosely based on the relationship between Link and Zelda from the Nintendo game, 'Zelda - Breath of the Wild'. The track is a hi-def indie-pop song that expresses the dream of wandering through Hyrule (The Zelda-universe) with the one you love the most.

Every year, the Danish music business' migratory instincts lead it to SPOT Festival, where labels, members of the press, bookers, publishers, promoters, sync agents and misc. swap business cards in the hopes of finding a partner of sorts. Today, we're ancient men with magnificent, long, grey beards, but then -- just as the label was -- we were babies, fresh out of the in-house cloning vats our very rich parents had built for the purpose of their genes (not just their wealth) lasting 4ever. Today, we're FIVE clones at Big Oil, and we'll introduce 'em all online v. soon. But until then, you can meet us all when we celebrate tonight at The Big Oil 10-Year Birthday Celebration! We've been around for 10 years, which is 100.000 in Label Years! It's hard to express in words what that's like, so we've done it the only way we know how: Music. And more concretely, The Imperial March of the Dark Empire from Star Wars - one of the main company-inspirations for starting our own business. It had come out the year prior as a cassette tape on Infinite Waves ❤️, who were kind enough to allow its digital re-release via yours truly, the faceless corporation that is Big Oil. For us, it was one of the first releases we put out in the UK (big thanks to Division Promotions!) and it led to a couple of London-adventures with the band that we were lucky enough to tag along on. It was the first Less Win-release to feature drummer Matthew Moller, so it's only fitting that we share his thoughts on the EP:

"My memories of Further are a little hazy, so please bear with me. It was recorded in the rehearsal space Less Win had at that time, a concrete room surrounded by other concrete rooms for bands like us to use in some rat-palace warehouse in Sydhavnen. At that time Sydhavnen was a desolate sh****le, not the botox-and-steroids nouveau riche enclave Sydhavnen is now (different kind of sh****le),"

"I don’t really remember how the songs came together other than it all seemed really smooth and seamless and effortless. I’d only known Patrick and Casper for a couple of weeks before joining Less Win in late-2012 (their drummer at the time was planning to travel for a few months and they were keen to have someone else replace him so they could crack on with things and not wait around). I learned their set after a few practices, we did a couple of shows around Copenhagen consisting of their existing material, plus a couple of covers (‘Billy Two’ by The Clean maybe?) and then began writing songs. Basically, the EP is an honest document of the first four songs we wrote together, so for that reason it’ll always hold a special place for me.
From memory we recorded it in February or March, 2013, in a single evening,"

"We drank heaps. We tracked live and added vocals after, which has been our method ever since. We recorded and mixed the whole thing in one go. Patrick went nuts with his vintage Space Echo, which gives a geeky kitsch to the affair and sounds amazing. Casper played heaps of slide and had this weird backwards guitar sound on a couple of songs, which I’d never heard before and was really impressed by. I don’t recall us talking about what we were doing during the writing or recording. The songs just appeared. It all seemed quite natural and just poured out. Quite pleasant and surprising really.
Although I haven’t listened to it in ages, I recall the music being quite hectic and spontaneous. Jerky kinda rockabilly at times, cocky paranoid ranting, a glorious mess! There’s heaps of energy, heaps of mistakes. It’s quite telling that these songs stayed in our live set for the next few years!
Further was initially released as a self-titled cassette on our friend Bjarke’s label Infinite Waves, back in mid-2013. He was a friend and a fan and had this idea to have us and three other acts each record a cassette tape which would form this sound installation and tour various libraries. We sold it at shows too. Big Oil thought it deserving of a wider audience so re-released it digitally in 2015, as a nice stopgap before Trust was due for release the year after. The cover image was taken by Casper out of the window of an apartment he had on Istedgade at the time."
