Not only is it , it’s also Greg Reynaud’s birthday!

If you’ve enjoyed any of his projects over the years (Short Hate Temper, Lovetron, Behold The Profit, Art of Ballistics, Midway In Wake, etc.), show him some love in the comments. Or, drop some coin on his stuff over at , and we’ll pass along every red cent to him.

Also, happy belated to Terry Burch, bassist for The Belmont and The North Wind, who was integral to the making of Greg’s second album as Midway In Wake. Feel free to love him up in the comments, too!

Hopefully, we get some new tunes from both of them soon… 🤞

On this day, seven long years ago, we were fortunate enough to release the second Art of Ballistics EP/mini-LP, entitled REX 84.

Like it’s predecessor, Broken Mornings, the collection did extremely well at college and non-commercial radio stations, but it was all but buried by the press. The lone audio interview the group did was heavily edited before being broadcast by Portland’s NPR affiliate OPB, effectively neutering the group’s messaging in that space.

However, despite the best efforts of a mostly white, indie music press to maintain the status quo, the themes and messages carried forth by the band’s music, artwork and videos have come to occupy a larger and larger footprint in most AmeriKKKan’s consciousness.

From the title, to the horrors collaged into the cover art, to the use of the Chicago Police’s own archival audio from the murder of Fred Hampton, the group makes it clear that even though they’re an instrumental project, they have plenty of poignant things to say about the past, present and future of the USA.

So, if you haven’t yet indulged yourself, we highly encourage a listen on this seven year anniversary. It’s enjoyable without knowing the context in which it was made, but it’s even more enjoyable once you uncover its hidden meanings and acknowledgements.

Based on runtime, this 7 track, purely instrumental affair qualifies as the band’s first full length album, and it arrives now, after nearly a decade of effort and reflection.

While the band’s first EP ‘Mirror Lake’ was mainly written by guitarist Erin Leonard, these new cuts were built from the ground up by the entire band, and they are richer and more varied as a result.

Adding to the sonic richness of this collection is the fact that the band moved away from their DIY, home based studio approach, and went into B Side Studios with Adam Pike to capture this batch of songs in a grand fashion.

If this sounds like your type of thing, throw some $$$ at the fellas via their Bandcamp page today, and we’ll pass along every cent to them in honor of the release and Bandcamp Day!

The second single from ’s debut full length album, ‘Dismal Nitch,’ arrives this Friday, with an absolutely wild video in tow.

Album opener “Santana Claus” sets the
mood for ’s full throttle animated treatment, which feels like a cross between Mad Max: Fury Road, Chicken Run, and those later episodes of The X-Files where the black goop takes over things.

Weird, but trust us…. You’ll want to set aside a few minutes to watch this one over the weekend.

The full album arrives on March 4, and you can pre-order it now from Bandcamp.

Happy Bandcamp Friday! (For real this time 🤪)

Per the usual, we’re foregoing our share of profits from all purchases made on the platform today, which means that every dime that’s not sucked up in PayPal fees goes directly to the artists.

This includes the newest member of our growing family, Portland based instrumental post-rock band !

This talented trio has graciously chosen Lowatt as the adopted home for its debut full length album, ‘Dismal Nitch’, which we will be making available to all of you on March 4 (another Bandcamp Friday!).

“Possum Adventure”, the first single from the album, is now streaming on the band’s Bandcamp page, and we’d love for you to check it out at some point this weekend.

And, hey, if instrumental rock ain’t your thing, we get it. But, please pass it on to that friend of yours who won’t shut up about Explosions In The Sky for us!

Thanks!

As promised, the video for Airplanes Are Better’s “Adam Gauges The Apple” is now streaming on the band’s Bandcamp page!

airplanesarebetter.bandcamp.com

Like most other notable El Paso bands of their era, Airplanes Are Better not only wrote great songs, they performed the hell out of them, and this video proves that point. The band soaked up all of At The Drive-In’s energy and stage presence, and put their own unique spin on it, as they, too, wanted to achieve the escape velocity necessary to break out of West Texas.

The footage used to make this video was shot at a now defunct dive bar in Las Cruces, NM (lovingly dubbed “The Red Door”) sometime between 2000 and 2001. In addition to shooting the original footage, and booking the band that evening, Will Watts was also responsible for editing and heavily effecting this piece over the past year.

Wait… you’re still here? Go watch the video already!

Tomorrow (1/28) is the first Friday of the year, and we’re gonna celebrate by posting the first official music video from Airplanes Are Better on their Bandcamp page!!

airplanesarebetter.bandcamp.com

In addition to posting the video on Bandcamp, we’ll be foregoing our usual cut, which means that the only people who are getting paid tomorrow for Bandcamp purchases are the band(s) and PayPal.

So, if you haven’t copped the band’s ‘Power’ EP yet, hold off until tomorrow, and your support will go that much further.
