Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police spotted stolen vehicle stopped by a train when the 22-year-old driver, a recent parolee, and an unknown passenger bailed out and ran in opposite directions. The passenger is still at large, but the 22-year-old was pursued in a foot chase to Oak Lawn children's museum, but not before he tried to carjack three other vehicles in a desperate attempt to escape, police said.

The convicted felon and recent parolee is facing attempted carjacking and possession of a machine gun charges, Oak Lawn police said.

Officials say police responding to a burglary in progress chased the suspect on foot, and returned fire when the suspect shot at them.
