Mohammed Shami said, "If I wanted to pray, who could stop me? I will say it with pride that I'm a Muslim. I will say it with pride that I'm an Indian. Have I ever prayed after taking a 5-wicket haul before? I have taken many five-wicket hauls". (Aaj Tak).

Private engineering institutes in India are experiencing a significant decline in placements this year, with reports indicating a drop of 50-70%. This trend is attributed to macroeconomic challenges, prompting companies, particularly in the information technology sector, to scale back on hiring.

The impact of the placement slowdown is leading these institutes to reconsider their plans, according to officials. Santanil Dasgupta, senior director of BML Munjal University's career guidance development centre, mentioned the adoption of a cautious "wait-and-watch" approach.

Companies are reportedly exercising caution in their hiring practices, and the sentiment for fresher recruitment is low, as noted by Dasgupta. IT service providers, traditionally major campus recruiters, had increased hiring in the past two years anticipating growth, but are now reevaluating plans due to a slowdown in client spending. Hiring in other engineering streams is either stagnant or on the lower side.

Dasgupta highlighted the contrast between the current and previous years, stating that by this time last year, 63% of students at BML Munjal University had been placed, whereas this year, only 20-25% have secured placements so far from a batch size of 175.

Similar sentiments were echoed by other private institutes. Anjani Kumar Bhatnagar, deputy director of the placement cell at Amity University, noted that only 30% of students have been placed compared to 60% by this time last year. Bhatnagar emphasized the need to target niche companies or those with operations in India, as these are the entities actively recruiting.

"The IT services companies are not hiring this year. This created a big impact in the placement figures," he said. "Same time last year, we had reached 80% of the campus placements. This year, we reached only 35%."

At Galgotias University, about 45% of the final year students had been placed by the first week of November last year. This year, it is down to 38% despite campus recruitment beginning a month earlier.
