Cpl. Adam Eilers is finally home from war. Eilers, 24, of Garber had been in government hospitals since February, when a Taliban bomb shredded an armored truck carrying him and two other Iowa National Guard troops in eastern Afghanistan.

Funeral set for Iowa Marine killed in Afghanistan

22-year-old Cpl. Zachary Reiff of Preston was injured in a roadside bombing on Nov. 18. He died three days later.

Funeral services have been scheduled for an Iowa Marine killed earlier this month in Afghanistan.

Iowa Soldiers Remember Afghanistan

Iowa Public Television's half-hour documentary about the Iowa Guard's deployment to Afghanistan debuted last night and is available online. It includes interviews with soldiers and commanders, plus extensive video footage from the Des Moines Register and others.

October 2011 marked the 10th anniversary of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Iowa Public Television will air a program this week about the Iowa National Guard’s 2011 deployment to Afghanistan.
The program, “Iowa Soldiers Remember Afghanistan,” will run at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 p.m. Friday on IPTV.
The program includes interviews with veterans of the deployment.

The Washington Post's front page Tuesday featured a photo of Iowa National Guard Master Sgt. Todd Eipperle saluting the casket of his friend, Sgt. 1st Class Terryl Pasker. Pasker was killed earlier this month by a rogue Afghan security officer who also killed a retired Connecticut state trooper and wounded Eipperle.
