When the authorities refused to tackle the mounting rubbish problem in her home town, this 81 year old woman took it upon herself to fix the problem.
"...caring for the earth is our responsibility in this part of the world. Whether we do it or not, our politicians won't care. It's down to us."

Historically the park would have to recruit rangers from around the country so they wouldn't be influenced by the people they grew up with in the local community but women just don't seem to be corruptible in that way.

They're challenging political and social barriers.
Women often bear the brunt of climate change's impact. In Guatemala, they also have become some of the country's most visible environmental activists.

Meeting with some of the World’s biggest banks these women are putting the pressure on to shift away from investment in fossil fuels to renewable energies.
First Nations women have met with European banks to push for fossil fuel divestment as the United Nations releases a model for banks to account for climate change. Grassroots action is helping the movement gain momentum.

The single-use plastic bag tax in the UK has already resulted in a 90% reduction in their use.
The ban on single-use plastics that will come into force next year has already seen McDonald's phasing out the use of plastic straws in their UK stores.
If we put pressure on our governments to make the right decisions we can affect real change.
The UK is set to ban all sales of single-use plastics, including plastic straws and Q-tips from the country as early as next year.
