El Destino is a historical saga chronicling the story of one Mexican American family over a span of 500 years in both Mexico and the United States. Its intent (and destiny) is to be for the Mexican-American experience what Roots (the most watched television mini-series ever, leading to over 30 Emmy Awards) was for the African-American experience. In short, Roots helped all Americans gain a newfound acceptance and respect for the African-American; El Destino will undoubtedly do the same for the Latino community.
Our series tracks the saga of one family, its culture and the lost heritage that it strives to regain. The story focuses on a main character, Marta, who takes a journey into the past and learns of the struggles and triumphs her family endured to get to where they are today. What begins as a search for a family heirloom, an Aztecan wedding necklace, evolves to a lesson of life, culture and heritage lost through the years of "Americanization."
This tender and poignant story reaches as far back as 500 years as a grandmother shares tales of a time and culture that seem long since forgotten, reminding her family that they are born of kings.
Filming is planned to take place in Mexico, Texas, New Mexico and Los Angeles. The production of this film will employ hundreds of Mexican and Mexican-Americans in the U. S. and Mexico, both in front
of and behind the cameras. This is particularly important because it is our goal to accurately represent this rich cultural heritage that only those of Mexican descent can reveal. In tune with the words, "helping others is a very important part of one's life, “I firmly believe this project will profoundly change many lives.
Overall, El Destino will have a powerful and diverse impact as a cultural phenomenon an exploration of Mexican and Mexican-American
history, and the crown jewel of the historical mini-series. Not only will this be an epic television event, but one that will make all involved in its creation extremely proud.
