Hon Will Ensure Your Welfare, Gov. Ahmed Assures Kwarans

Kwara state governor, Alh Abdulfatah Ahmed today assured that the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. Razak Atunwa will ensure the welfare and wellbeing of Kwarans if elected.

Ahmed added that if elected, Atunwa would also place high premium on the welfare of traditional rulers in the state.

The governor gave the assurance at the palace of Olupo of Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun local government area of the state during the PDP campaign tour of the area.

He said that the PDP's governorship candidate had garnered the requisite experience at both the legislative and executive arms of government to bring the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the people of the state.

"Atunwa has seen it all in the area of governance. He was a commissioner for Information, Works and Finance in this state. He has also been the speaker of the state House of Assembly. And currently, he is a member of the House of Representatives," he said.

Ahmed urged Kwarans to vote massively for all the PDP candidates during the forthcoming elections in the state.

In Oro, a few kilometers away from Ajase-Ipo, Governor Ahmed promised to elevate the status of the monarch to first class.

He added that the state General Hospital in Oro would soon be rehabilitated.

"The rehabilitation of the hospital has been approved. My administration will soon cash-back that,' he said.

Speaking earlier, Atunwa promised that his administration would ensure equity and fairness in running the affairs of the state.

He added that his government would prioritise youth employment and empowerment by encouraging entrepreneurship, saying, "I will also empower the women."

Kwara PDP Governorship Primaries - The Facts cc

Following the discussions with participants and sources on the ground in Kwara State, and due to the speculation that is being generated on certain social media channels, it is important to highlight the following about the Kwara PDP gubernatorial election that held today.

First, as stated at various fora, and as expressed to the gubernatorial aspirants at a meeting held in the early hours of September 25th, 2018, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, had no preferred candidate for the party primaries that held today.

Dr. Saraki believes that competence, popularity and acceptability, must be the deciding factors in the selection of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, as such, due to the fact that many of the aspirants in question meet all three criteria, Dr. Saraki has stated that a level-playing field must be provided for all the aspirants to vie for the gubernatorial ticket of the PDP in Kwara.

Going back to today’s incident, the accreditation had already taken place, and delegates from two Local Government Areas had already previously voted. The third Local Government had started to vote, when a few people from that LGA raised certain observations about the process.

The organisers of the primaries than suggested that the LGA in question should either conclude voting while the observations were addressed, or allow another LGA to vote — pending the resolution of the observations that were raised.

It was at this point that hired thugs then forced their way into the venue of the primaries to disrupt the process.

It is important to note that despite his influence in the politics of the state, Dr. Saraki has always worked to ensure that the democratic process is followed to the letter. Additionally, as many of his political associates are aspiring to become the next Governor of the State, he has maintained that he will allow the people to decide and worked to ensure that the party primaries in the state remain credible.

That was why he stayed back in Abuja while the primariy election in Ilorin was on-going. He just left Abuja for Ilorin at 9.10pm following the news of the disruption.

Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to Senate President.

International Confederation of Midwives Global Goodwill Ambassador condemns killing of midwife in Nigeria

Toyin Saraki calls for second midwife and further health-care worker to be released

18th September 2018

Her Excellency Mrs Toyin Ojora Saraki, Global Goodwill Ambassador of the International Confederation of Midwives, has condemned in the strongest terms the murder of International Committee of the Red Cross midwife Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa.

Mrs Saraki commented: “The murder of Saifura, a midwife who bravely left her home to help those in need, is a tragedy for Nigeria and for the global community of midwives. We mourn her deeply. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, in particular her two children, and her International Red Cross colleagues.”

“I now call on all efforts to be made to secure the immediate release and rescue of Hauwa Mohammed Liman and Alice Loksha. Healthworkers should never be a target; their abduction is an act of unimaginable cruelty”

“This is a tragic reminder of the threat to life and liberty faced by midwives, nurses and health-care workers who selflessly work for the health and wellbeing of others. I stand in solidarity with them and will continue to advocate for their safety in carrying out their life-saving work.”

PDP Ticket: Eight govs back

Atiku, Saraki, Kwakwanso lead race the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed October 5th and 6th for its Presidential primaries. No less than than 12 aspirants are vying for the sole ticket, with each assuring the party that victory is only inches away provided he is given the flag

In the week gone by, Wadata Plaza, the edifice housing the PDP secretariat, was a beehive of activities as aspirants made last minute effort to submit their expression of interest and nomination forms for the big test. However, the party which is aiming to reclaim the power it lost at the centre in 2015 is also aware today that the selection of its Presidential candidate may boost or scuttle the lofty aspiration of marching to A*o Rock.

In his bid to realize his age-long dream of presiding over the affairs of the nation, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has been meeting with fellow aspirants and only last week, urged Sule Lamido to step down for him on the premise that he (Atiku) was the older of the two. Lamido declined, arguing justifiably that in politics, the Wazirin Adamawa was a greenhorn compared to him.

That brief verbal exchange became a prelude to what was to come much later. While submitting their nomination forms, the duo of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and immediate past governor of Plateau state, Jonah Jang ruled out the possibility of accepting the consensus option. While Saraki said the option was “not an issue,” Jang argued that anything short of allowing all aspirants to test their popularity at the polls may be difficult to accept.

What this portends for the party is that unless these actors change their stand, the party’s only option to picking its flag bearer is the convention.

But for a party that is not in power, a party that lacks the resources it once had in its Kitty for 16 years; a crisis of whatever depth is what the PDP can ill afford today as it prepares for the elections.

Governors’ Forum vs BoT

The PDP Governors’ Forum led by Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to provide a level playing field for all Presidential aspirants with a warning not to sideline old and faithful leaders who stayed put while others defected during the party’s troubled times.

On the other hand, the Board of Trustees (BoT) is set to meet with the aspirants next week to make them realize the significance of rallying behind a consensus candidate to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

Speaking with Saturday Vanguard on the conundrum, Chairman of the BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin said the board is desirous of peace for the party adding that 12 Presidential aspirants make the race was “troubling.”

“We want peace for our party and that is why we will meet the aspirants and urge them to deliberate among themselves so that they can come up with a consensus candidate. But if this is not possible, we will go for credible primary election,” he said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Saraki and Atiku are taking the game a notch higher as both are neck-deep in talks with governors, all of whom have a say in delegates (statutory and elected) expected to vote at the convention in the event of a failure to agree on a consensus.

Before jetting out to attend the burial of former United Nations Secretary General, Koffi Anan on Thursday, Saraki had won the support of no less than eighth governors out of the fourteen on the party platform. Atiku, Saraki, Kwakwanso appear to be the front-runners in the battle for PDP ticket.

: ’s nightmare, Presidency’s mortal fear

Ever since his emergence as Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has been the undeserved target of mudslinging, character assassination, frivolous court cases, undue media trial, harassment and humiliation, propaganda, half-truths and outright falsehood among other shenanigans aimed at cowing and arm-twisting him to force him to bow to the whims and caprices of a powerful cabal operating with reckless abandon both within the presidency and the All Progressives Congress, APC, his only sin being that he contested and won the senate presidency against the pleasure of some self-crowned kingmakers, an action well within his rights.

Despite all this, Saraki has proved to be a master in the game, always well ahead of his detractors and flooring his traducers at every round of the attack brought his way, no matter how vicious. They have initiated some of the most ridiculous trumped up charges against him and dragged him from one court to the other in order to wear him out and force him to surrender, but he was always roundly defeating them and reemerging with renewed strength.

At a point, Saraki thought he had had enough. It was against sound reasoning to remain in the same party with a group of relentless persecutors and oppressors; a group of people that have no respect whatsoever for citizens and their rights; a group of people who, in order to continue to trample upon the rights of the people, disingenuously attempted to subjugate the rule of law to their warped interpretation of national interest; a group of people famed for the flagrant disobedience of orders of courts of competent jurisdiction; a group of people whose lopsided appointments have left Nigerians from large sections of the country wonder silently and complain aloud, asking if they are still part of the country; a group of people whose infamous fight against corruption is selective and therefore ineffective; a group of people whose incompetence and ineptitude have left innocent, helpless Nigerians including women and children to be savagely hacked to death repeatedly by terrorists in Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Taraba, Southern Kaduna etc while, instead of arresting and prosecuting them, they have made excuses for the perpetrators and explained away with pomp and ceremony their murderous escapades.

Despite all their intimidation and attacks on citizens and institutions including judges and the judiciary, lawmakers and the national assembly etc, they had intended for people to catch cold whenever they sneezed, but it was not going to work with Saraki.

They have even wondered how the Senate President has been able to retain his seat for so long despite all the federal might and resources deployed to unseat him to the extent that several APC leaders including the ruling party’s chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, was even reported to have sworn to muster every available resources to remove Saraki as senate president.

They are bewildered by the man’s ability to have effectively managed the national assembly and all the diverse political and institutional interests therein.

Now, that the same man they could not defeat or unseat for three years despite dedicating huge resources and time to has declared for president on the platform of the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the fear of Buhari, Oshiomhole and the APC as a whole, seems to have heightened. The belief in their circles is that Saraki’s political stature has so grown that he has fast become a leading favourite aspirant in the PDP to the extent that shortly after he defected back to the PDP, the party did not even think twice before officially crowning him the Leader of the party. The confidence reposed in him is so unshaken that he was also appointed to lead the party’s campaign council in the forthcoming Osun State election.

Reports also have it that the senate president has since emerged a leading favourite presidential aspirant among the governors on the platform of the PDP.

With his pedigree and knack for flooring the presidency and the APC in every battle they have engaged him in, there is no doubt that this development of Saraki as a leading presidential aspirant in the PDP has further made them upset, sad and jittery. They are obviously losing sleep and having nightmares over it.

It is expected that, as usual, in order to intimidate and cow him as a step towards getting him to step down from the presidential race, all manner of tricks which Nigerians have known APC for would be tried on him afresh. It will not be surprising if we hear that the EFCC has been unleashed on him after their failed multiple attempts to nail him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. They may also “dig up” fake and imaginary financial infractions probably going as far back as when he was governor of Kwara State, after all, they did that with their failed CCT phantom charges against him. Of course, even they know his sterling qualities and capacity, hence, they did all they could do to persuade him not to leave their party. But he had to!

No doubt, Saraki represents a fresh idea and a new way of doing things. With his level of education, exposure and experience as a democrat especially in managing diverse interests successfully, and respecting the rights of citizens – having suffered gross abuse himself – guaranteeing their freedom and growing Nigeria, something which APC has not been able to do having been given the opportunity, Saraki is fast becoming a favoured aspirant among Nigerians, the kind they have surely been missing. This is why he has since become APC’s nightmare and the presidency is now in mortal fear of him to the extent that they will do all they can to stop him, but he is certainly among the few adequately prepared to defeat APC no matter what they throw at any aspirant. He has done that multiple times before, he can do it again.

No matter what anybody does, the fact remains that no one can stop an idea whose time has come. The time for the idea to grow Nigeria has finally come! APC should not waste our resources trying to stop it. They can’t!

Defection: Hon. Olanrewaju Hails 's Decision, Pledges Total Support

As the decision of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to generate reactions, many wise people and savers of democracy have aired their supports to the number three man.

One of the great ones to drum support for the decision of the Senate President who was has since then been appointed the National Leader of the PDP is Hon. Olanrewaju Oba popularly called " LARRY ", the Ilorin West /Asa Federal Constituency aspirant.

Hon Larry in a message released through his foundation, "OLANREWAJU OBA FOUNDATION", described the decision of the President of the 8th National Assembly, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the best for Nigerians and Nigerian nascent democracy.

Honourable Larry added that the APC led Federal government is a monumental failure and it is shocking to note that all that this administration rode on in 2015 to win elections and come to power are still very much with us, in fact at a dismal level.

Furthermore, He described this APC administration as a disaster and so it won't be out of sense for lovers of democracy to dissociate themselves from such a disappointment. If having agitated long and clamoured for a change, the government of change does not change, intelligent party members ought to find alternative path to serve the public. Their being part of this "I-am-the-angel" government threatens our democracy.

The Senate President, leaving such a notorious setting, has thus taken an angelic step.

Hon. Larry described the President of the 8th Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki as one of the enigmas of the world; ebullient and tactful. His relevance in Kwara and Nigeria Politics cannot be overemphasized. He is such a master planner and a critical thinker. It is impossible for any politician to win a pooling booth without the support of the Great Leader.

Larry stated that Dr. Bukola Saraki has an established political structure that works for all occasions and it is not easy, save the will of Allah, for him to miss any target. He is a born leader whose existence was carved by combination of the semen of the country's foremost nationalists.

He has the eloquence of Awo, the fame of Zik and the leadership trait of Sadauna. It is One Leader, One Kwara!

Finally, Hon. Larry and his foundation (OLANREWAJU OBA FOUNDATION) therefore pledged unalloyed support and loyalty to:

1. the rugged undefeated Senate President, the 4th Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki for refusing to be a part of the guilors ;

2. the Executive Governor of our dear state, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed (Megida Nkwara) for standing and identifying with the truth; and

3. All the indispensable members of our party.
May the Party continue to wax stronger.

PDP Power to the people
