I LOVE this.
(I tend to rewatch stuff I love, so much, that I burn out on it. and I totally burned myself out on this one back in the 90s. Plus, that version of Mustang Sally used to PACK the dancefloor back in the day... I played it a lot back then.
But, I've had The Commitments on the shelf for a few years now. Might be time to dust it off and enjoy!)

"Streets of Fire" doesn't get the love it deserves. For me it squarely nails a kind of "Noir" feel that is also very much that "cheezy Pop" thing that I can't resist.
Also? Jim Steinman. If you know who he is and don't hate his music (He's Meatloaf's songwriter) then the soundtrack to this thing is the best.
If you know about this amazing piece of entertainment but haven't actually watched it yet... check this out.
It's a pretty fair review of the film.

This is David Gilmore and Tom Jones and Prince's Purple Rain. Guys this is amazing. Just give the first 30 seconds a listen. If you're not hooked, then move along. My theme song has changed a few times over the years. In 1973 it was Playground in My Mind by Clint Holmes, 1976 it was Low Rider by War, 1979 it was Renegade by Styx, in 1984 it was the Ghostbusters theme, in 1986 it was Soul Man by the Blues Brothers... I could go on but you get the idea.
For the last 15 years, I haven't had a theme song.
I've gotta change that. So, for the moment, here's my fill-in theme. This will do until the right one presents itself.

God, I love this thing. The whole show is up on YouTube...
This was the night that the phrase "Musical Theater" suddenly made sense to me.
It was very cool and very weird, how much this resonated with me.
And because, it was Alice Cooper, I couldn't really talk to anyone about it. To the average music listener he wasn't the national treasure we consider him to be today. Lol...

OK. This morning I learned something that, weirdly makes me smile.
Whenever anyone walks up to a Mic in old TV shows or Movies, there is always a moment of feedback squeal. It's always there... just a quick "skrEEEE" sound as they walk up... then they'll tap it a couple of times and then start speaking.
It's annoying because that's not how Mics work.

But it WAS the perfect audible cue to let listeners of old radio-plays know that someone had walked up to and was about to use a microphone.

So, TV/Film didn't NEED to do that and were only carrying forward what they had learned in their radio careers.

Hmmm... there is a lesson to be learned here.
