Diadem Books - a Royal Diadem!
I had a pleasant surprise the other day in discovering a new textile-related word. Or rather, the word was familiar, but I had not appreciated the textile connection.
It was none other than the word ‘diadem’ – as in Diadem Books, my kindly publishing firm! A diadem was originally, in Ancient Greece, a band of expensive cloth, wound around the head and often ornamented with gold and jewels. It signified a ruler or king, someone who inspires awe, even perhaps semi-divine. Eventually the cloth would be replaced by precious metal, with the stones set in it and became a crown, now a more common sign of regality.
So I feel very honoured by this link to Charles Muller, the owner and head of Diadem Books. In another little twist, his surname, Muller, is the same as the word Miller. No, not a textile word, I admit, but very appropriate for the publisher of Turnaround Cottage, which is all about a magical corn mill, blown around by the winds to grind out stories!
So thank you, Charles – and may your diadem (and that of the firm) continue to shine brightly! 👑
