We love the “natives vs invasives” theme at Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival & are thrilled to be the most awarded invaders ; )

Long time TBUFF regular Kenneth Frank’s movies have won more Buffys than any other filmmaker from outside of Florida (just barely eclipsing our Frictive friends from New Brunswick, who have a couple of former collaborators in TBUFF 2022), and Frank returns this year with another strong contender, “My Sister’s Wedding,” which he wrote, directed and produced with his company In The Garage Productions. It follows the appropriately named Allison Valentine, who plans to leave her family’s company but has to keep her sister’s wedding from becoming a hot mess first. “My Sister’s Wedding” plays at Essential Talent’s TBUFF 2022 on Friday, 12/2 at 3:30PM, which is immediately after the other feature Frank produced that is in this year’s event, “UFO Club” – it’s a TBUFF double feature In The Garage.

Getting excited for our double feature at Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival - & play back-to-back in two weeks!!!

Hey, remember the 90s? When “Saturday Night Live” was doing the Goat Boy “Hey, remember the 80s” sketch? “UFO Club” from writer-director Steven Tsapelas is set in the late 90s, when the Spice Girls had overtaken Seattle in musical dominance and we were dealing with the first impeachment of most of our lifetimes. Extraterrestrial life was a pretty big deal in the movies at the time with the recent releases of “Independence Day” and “Contact,” but Steven’s movie is more a teen “Starman” than hardcore sci-fi, as it’s about a nerdy high school senior who becomes friends with the most intimidating girl in class when he discovers she has a VHS that could prove the existence of aliens. "UFO Club” is one of 2 features at Essential Talent’s TBUFF 2022 produced by the multiple Buffy-winning team In The Garage Productions, with this sci-fi-ish romantic comedy showing 2 weeks from today, Friday 12/2 at 2:05 PM.

Almost exactly one year ago, we filmed this opening scene of UFO Club film at the iconic All-American Burger in Massapequa, so naturally today when we won the Audience award at the 25th annual Long Island International Film Expo, we had to return to this location to celebrate. We threw our (film) babies off a cliff! and were sent off in kawarakenage, throwing small clay discs off the side of a mountain to eliminate bad karma. Hoping the mountain (and our amazing post-production squads!!) will take care of them from now on.

There’s dedication to your craft and to a project, and then there’s going to a whole other level, like jumping in to place (and re-place!) underwater cameras and waiting while footage is reviewed, just to make sure we got the perfect shots. Whether it’s placing gear, framing shots, or leading a sing along during a rain delay, is on a level beyond all levels, collaborator extraordinaire and all-around brilliant dude.

Not only is he AD & editor on , he is a marvelous singer-songwriter, and he wrote and directed playing at this Friday. So get your in-person or virtual tickets ASAP!!!
