I've come to the conclusion that there needs to be a better platform for DJs, producers, and other creatives in underground electronic music. This week I talked with quite a few folks who had their pages suspended for no reason, hacked, or some other stuff. Any ideas on an alternative?

I'm finally back to listening to promos and buying tracks. I can't believe what I have been missing in the past year and a half. Hopefully, I'll get back to the point of playing out or dropping an occasional mix. Well, it's back to work and getting life sorted out.

A few days ago, I posed a question for what to do house music wise stateside, looking for inspiration. I attribute whatever little underground success I've had so far from being that underground dude living in another country. Now that I'm here, that allure is gone. Anyway, I have been venturing out to bars and stuff in my local downtown to see how things are done and to party a little. The town I live in has a pretty strong live music scene. Now for house and techno, not as much. I took notes to come up with a plan on how to grow something. Also, a trip down south to Florida as well as a few trips to Chicago were sources for inspiration as I got to see how folks do events. Although, there are going to some big hurdles, I think I can get something going. First things first, I need to start rolling out a new mix series/podcast (this fall) and keep producing stuff.

Now that I'm back stateside and in a small town, it looks like I have my work cut out for me in house music. Good thing I live not too far from two metropolises that have good scenes. In Korea, I had to think a little bit outside the box, so I'll probably do the same around here. For you DJs and producers out there, you have any ideas?

Trying to get inspired to make house music, I decided to make another trip to Chicago to meet some friends for a weekend. I sat in on a studio session. We also had to meet up with Karl Almaria for a Brunchlox event. To cap it off, we went the Queen event at Smart Bar to check out the awesomeness of Honey Dijon. I got to meet up with Candy J and Michael Serafini from Gramaphone Records. I definitely had fun and ready to get back to the swing of things.

Pssst...I had to remind Candy about this track. Hehe.

Sometimes I think about why I got into underground house music. It has kept me surrounded by great people. It has gotten me through some rough times. It has introduced me to a different life. For me, it's not only the music but the folks are into it. It's the sense of community it brings. Regardless of where you came from, you felt welcome. With all the money and clout chasing that's going on among the DJs and producers, I hope we don't lose the countercultural edge.

Story behind this tune. I originally made this for a wedding after party over a decade ago. I had a ballad lined up for the slow dancing but the MP3 was corrupt and I had to improvise. So I played Ron Hall's "The Way You Love Me (Dim's MFSB Remix". I apologized to the bride and groom but they enjoyed it. There was also a live band. The bar was so vibrant that the police came twice. Fun times. On a related note, the bride was on a segment on Conan O'Brian's show when he visited Korea. I hope folks still dig it after all these years.
