Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger defeated Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in the Virginia gubernatorial race. She gave her victory speech at the Greater Richmond Convention Center with her family on stage. Spanberger’s father, Martin Davis, and mother, Eileen Davis and other family members listening to her speech (2nd and 3rd photos). Sen. Today wasn’t only Election Day, it was opening night for the Tony Award-winning “Kimberly Akimbo.” Kicking off the Broadway in Richmond 2025-26 season, the musical takes audiences back to 1999. Set in suburban New Jersey, Kimberly Levaco has a rare genetic condition that causes her to age rapidly, and if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, she must navigate adolescence, a dysfunctional home life and possible felony charges. Richmonders turn out to vote Tuesday at Main Street Station and in Church Hill. This year’s election includes statewide races for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, along with all 100 seats in the House of Delegates. Virginia is widely considered a critical bellwether in the runup to next year’s midterms.
