Alicia Keys and Kasseem Dean (who performs under the name Swizz Beatz) were in attendance at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for a preview night of “Giants: Art From the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys.” More than 130 works are on display at the , highlighting Black creatives from Africa, Europe, the United States and the Caribbean. The musicians and husband-and-wife, loaned out the works from their personal collection to highlight the featured contemporary artists, inspire creativity and to cultivate access to artworks.

The Deans addressed attendees inside the VMFA’s packed atrium. “What we’re so excited about is that these doors are open for everybody,” Keys said. “That’s the point of ‘Giants,’ is first to welcome everybody into this space, to make everybody know that they belong in these rooms, [and] being provoked by the power of art, and this is what we all deserve. We definitely deserve to see the reflections of ourselves hanging on the walls … so that is the purpose of ‘Giants.’ It’s to remind us that we are the giants, the giant is inside of us and there’s nothing that stops us from being our highest version of ourselves.”

Dean added, “Make sure that the youth can come and see this, because they need to understand what it is to be their giant self in the world we live in today, and this is why we couldn’t have this artwork just sitting in storage or sitting in our house for only our personal use, we had to share this collection with everyone because that’s what it’s meant for. Those artists are giants.”

“Giants” opens to the public Nov. 22 and continues through March 1, 2026. To read more about the exhibition, click the 🔗 in our bio.
