CMA FEST HOSTS FITNESS FUNDRAISER
FOR MUSIC EDUCATION WITH THE CMA FOUNDATION

Fitness at Fest, Lead by Celebrity Trainer Erin Oprea and Country Star Tyler Hubbard,
Supports Music Education Initiatives Through the CMA Foundation

Nashville is gearing up for CMA Fest, the four-day music festival featuring hundreds of artists performing across various stages throughout downtown Nashville. In addition to unforgettable performances, celebrity trainer and fitness expert Erin Oprea is ready to help festival-goers feel the burn during Fitness at Fest at the Maui Jim Reverb Stage on Bridgestone Arena Plaza Friday, June 10 from 8:15-9:00 AM (gates 7:45 AM), with special guest and client Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line. The $10 registration fee will be donated to the CMA Foundation. Register here. RAIN water will be provided, but attendees should bring a mat and wear proper workout attire. The fitness event is rain or shine. Oprea hosted the inaugural Fitness at Fest in 2019 with more than 200 attendees ranging across all levels of fitness.

Artists performing at CMA Fest donate their time and talent so a portion of ticket proceeds can help fund the CMA Foundation’s mission of providing students with access to a high-quality music education and providing educators the resources they need to create and sustain thriving programs. CMA Fest will feature several other special events and activations during the festival that will raise awareness and help fund the CMA Foundation’s social impact and unique model of giving.

Named the “gold standard” and topping Billboard’s list of the 10 Best Country Music Festivals, CMA Fest is the longest-running Country Music festival in the world. The 2019 CMA Fest sold out with capacity crowds and had the largest engagement by Country Music fans in the event’s history, with visitors from all 50 states and 37 international countries flocking to downtown Nashville.

GRAND OLE OPRY ANNOUNCES INITIAL ARTISTS
FOR OPRY NEXTSTAGE CLASS OF 2022 PRESENTED BY GEICO

Lineup Includes Elvie Shane, Morgan Wade & BRELAND

Today, the Grand Ole Opry announced its initial artists for its Opry NextStage Class of 2022, an artist discovery program that spotlights Country music’s rising talent and highlights one artist per month with featured original content, an Opry performance and support across the Opry Entertainment platforms, which include the Opry, Ryman Auditorium, WSM Radio, Ole Red and Circle Network. Breakthrough artists Elvie Shane (May), Morgan Wade (June) and BRELAND (July) are the first three featured artists, with more to be announced throughout the year to complete the class with a total of seven artists. The artists shared their thoughts on the honor exclusively with the Tennessean.

“My Boy” singer Elvie Shane, who Billboard notes is “making the case for a new mainstay in country music,” made his Grand Ole Opry debut just over a year ago. He will return to the historic Opry stage on May 7 to mark his inclusion in the NextStage Class of 2022.

“The Opry has been at the forefront of keeping Country music alive and well since its inception,” says Shane. “I came from a place both literally and musically built on the same values and experiences. To be recognized by the Country music congregation that is the Opry is a huge honor.”

With a pulse on what is next in the Country music format and a deep commitment to supporting burgeoning talent, the program has cemented a strong track record in just three short years. The two previous NextStage classes have featured artists such as Parker McCollum, Lainey Wilson, Riley Green and Tenille Townes who all went on to earn ACM New Male and Female Artist of the Year trophies following their Opry NextStage debuts.

“Opry NextStage truly represents the depth of Country music and the future of the genre, and you’ll see that reflected in the composition of this year’s class—starting with these first three extremely talented artists who all come with their own unique artistry, perspectives, and backgrounds,” says Jordan Pettit, Director of Artist Relations & Programming Strategy for Opry Entertainment Group. “We are so excited to invest in this next generation of Opry performers who will help to shape the future of Country music and the Opry for many years to come.”

NextStage launched in 2019 with an inaugural class that included Green, Tegan Marie, Townes and Travis Denning. Last year’s class included Priscilla Block, McCollum, Niko Moon, Jameson Rodgers, Hailey Whitters, Wilson and Yola.

The Opry has helped launch the careers of countless artists, including Roy Acuff, Garth Brooks, Patsy Cline, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Bill Monroe and Dolly Parton, to name just a few. Award-winning group Little Big Town made its very first public appearance as a group on the Opry stage in 1999, and Carrie Underwood cemented a place in Country music with her first Opry appearance less than two weeks after having been named American Idol in 2005. It was with this grand tradition of artist investment that Opry NextStage was created.

THE CMA FOUNDATION HONORS 30 MUSIC TEACHERS WITH
MUSIC TEACHERS OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The Sixth Music Teachers of Excellence Awards Recognizes Educators for their Commitment and Impact on the Lives of Students and the Communities they Serve

Announcement Made in Celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week May 2-6

The CMA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Country Music Association, has announced 30 music teachers from across the country as Music Teachers of Excellence. Now in its sixth year, the program was created to recognize educators who are having the greatest impact on their students, using the power of music as an avenue for change.

The CMA Foundation will officially kick off the CMA Awards season on Wednesday, October 19, holding its sixth Music Teachers of Excellence Awards in Nashville. Along with a night of celebration and recognition, the CMA Foundation will also invest $150,000 total to all of this year’s recipients. Half of each teacher’s investment will go toward their classroom needs and music programs, and the other half will support professional development and personal expenses in an effort to continue driving commitment, motivation and retention in music education.

Music Teachers of Excellence are selected based on their dedication to bringing a high-quality music education to their students and the impact they’ve had on their school community through music. To date, the CMA Foundation has invested over $27 million nationally, including $850,000 towards Music Teachers of Excellence to ensure music educators have the support and funding needed to create a thriving program within their school and community.

“We are incredibly proud to support these 30 amazing music teachers through this program” says Tiffany Kerns, Executive Director, CMA Foundation. “Music Education is essential to the well-being of students everywhere. We believe that without excellent teachers, a high-quality education for our students wouldn't be possible. Welcoming this new class brings our staff and Country community so much joy - we cannot wait to celebrate their achievements this fall!”

The non-profit believes music and the arts are a crucial part of a well-rounded education. For more than 10 years, the CMA Foundation has observed why music programs are not thriving, seeing first-hand the challenges educators are facing and, most importantly, the systemic issues that must be addressed in order for every child to have access to music. Committed to its vision, the CMA Foundation is working directly with school districts to identify needs, understand their challenges, build community support and develop local and national resources from partners as part of the non-profit’s systems change model.

THE COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION HOSTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES JERRY BRADLEY, BROOKS & DUNN AND RAY STEVENS DURING 16TH ANNUAL CMA ARTIST LUNCHEON

The Country Music Association hosted its 16th Annual Artist Luncheon featuring a panel of the Country Music Hall of Fame Class of 2019 inductees – Jerry Bradley, Brooks & Dunn and Ray Stevens.
Artist members of the trade association were invited to hear first-hand about each inductee’s journey to icon status and their specific role in making Country Music history. The panel was hosted by WSM radio personality Bill Cody at Stevens’ CabaRay Showroom in Nashville.

In addition to getting an insider’s perspective from the panel of industry legends, Artist members enjoyed lunch together and networked with members of the Country Music Hall of Fame along with other industry colleagues.

Bradley will be inducted in the “Non-Performer” category, which is awarded every third year in rotation with the “Recording and/or Touring Musician” and “Songwriter” categories. Brooks & Dunn are being inducted in the “Modern Era Artist” category, and Stevens will be inducted in the “Veterans Era Artist” category.

A formal induction ceremony will take place at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum in the CMA Theater in October. Since 2007, the Museum’s Medallion Ceremony, an annual reunion of the Hall of Fame membership, has served as the official rite of induction for new members.

CMA created the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961 to recognize noteworthy individuals for their outstanding contributions to the format with Country Music’s highest honor.

RUNAWAY JUNE BREAKS TOP FIVE FOR FIRST TIME SINCE DIXIE CHICKS

Highest Charting Female Trio in Sixteen Years

RUNAWAY JUNE’s “Buy My Own Drinks” has extended its run marking the first time a female trio has broken into the top five on the Mediabase Country chart since the Dixie Chicks in 2003. This is a thrilling triumph for the band as this is also their first top five hit as songwriters. This milestone is part of Country music history being the highest charting female trio since the Dixie Chicks’ “Travelin’ Soldier” SIXTEEN years ago. Along with earning this coveted accolade, the trio announces their upcoming performance on ABC'S Good Morning America on October 3rd.

Not only are the members of Runaway June tremendous performers and musicians, but they are clearly prosperous songwriters. This song is the first top five song for each of the members as writers in which they wrote alongside Hillary Lindsey and Josh Kear. As songwriters, the members of the band wrote or cowrote a majority of the tracks on their critically acclaimed album Blue Roses.

"There’s a very contemporary spirit of independence and grown-ass agency that courses through these songs.” - Rolling Stone
"This song is a rallying cry for fiercely independent women to celebrate their own damn self-sufficiency." - CMT

Since Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne formed four years ago, Runaway June has become an ACM and CMT nominated band, been named CMT’s “Next Women of Country,” scored major tours and opening slots with some of the biggest names and icons in music (including Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood), performed on national TV including the CMA Awards, ACM Awards, CMT Awards and TODAY, and soon to be GMA. The trio has received high praise and raves from dozens of critical outlets, all while constantly digging deeper to fill out a sound that connects them to the tradition of Country music and its devoted fans.

Runaway June’s long-awaited debut album, Blue Roses was recently released on June 28, 2019 via Wheelhouse Records. Produced by Dann Huff. They are also on the road through the fall, supporting seven-time Grammy winner and Pollstar’s three-time top female country touring artist Carrie Underwood on the Cry Pretty Tour 360. Sponsored by CALIA, the tour kicked off on May 1 in Greensboro, NC, and will play 55 arenas across the U.S. and Canada promoted by AEG Presents.

CRAIG MORGAN REUNITES WITH BBR MUSIC GROUP FOR "THE FATHER, MY SON, AND THE HOLY GHOST"

Country music entertainer, TV host and Army veteran Craig Morgan is reuniting with BBR Music Group’s flagship label Broken Bow Records, his record label home for more than six years, on his first new music since 2016, the faith-filled tribute to his son Jerry — “The Father, My Son, And The Holy Ghost.” The emotional track, which has nearly 1.5 million views and counting, made national news last week, hitting No. 1 on iTunes All Genres Top Songs chart in addition to the Top Country Songs chart. Longtime friend and fellow Opry member, Blake Shelton, kickstarted the ascent, launching an unprecedented twitter campaign in support of the song he says he would “gladly give up (his) spot on country radio for.” The viral push, led by Blake, gained support from several other artists and celebrities including Blanco Brown, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Combs, Carson Daly, Ellen DeGeneres, Charles Esten, Larry The Cable Guy, Angie Harmon, Gwen Stefani, Cole Swindell, The Today Show and more. The song is being sent to country radio today.

Craig was signed to BBR Music Group from 2002 to 2008 where he delivered signature songs including “Almost Home,” “International Harvester,” “Redneck Yacht Club,” “Tough” and the 4-week Billboard Hot Country Songs chart topper, “That’s What I Love About Sunday.”

“Craig Morgan and BBR made history together with ‘Almost Home’, notching the first Top 10 for both,” says Jon Loba, EVP BBR Music Group. “He is once again making his mark in music with the heartfelt song ‘The Father, My Son, and The Holy Ghost’ inspired by his late son Jerry. Our hearts are overflowing with joy that he has chosen to work with us once again as we welcome him home to the BBR/BMG family.”

“I am truly humbled by the response to the song so far and to my friend Blake Shelton for what he has done to honor Jerry,” says Craig. “It’s incredible to reunite with the team at Broken Bow to share this song with radio and my hope is, it will be a help to those who need it most.”

“WE ALL COME TOGETHER” BENEFIT FOR JOHN BERRY AND MUSIC HEALTH ALLIANCE WAS FULL OF LOVE, EMOTIONS AND SURPRISES

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 26, 2019) -- “We All Come Together" for John Berry and Music Health Alliance has been defined in many ways since the event held on April 23 at City Winery in Nashville, the words “We” and “Together” being the most important. The love and support shown to John Berry and his family was abundant for the sold out show not only by the fans, friends and family who filled the seats, but also everyone behind the scenes, as well as those who appeared on stage, including everyone who made donations and contributions to the event. Financial totals raised are expected to exceed $300K, although final tabulations are not available as of this release.

The benefit surpassed the traditional fundraising concert expectations by the incredible talent on hand who were backed by John’s band throughout the show. Hosted by WSM on-air personalities Chris Kulick, Devon O’Day and Mike Terry, along with Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase of the Crook and Chase show, each sharing personal story after story about each artist who took the stage and engaging the audience with anticipation of the next performance.

Surprises and heartfelt special moments personal to John Berry and his wife Robin, as well as their family, were plentiful. John’s original band members, who toured with him at the height of his music career, together with John’s son, Caelan on drums and his wife Robin singing backup, joined his son, Sean, to play “Kiss Me In The Car,” bringing John to his feet, speechless and wiping tears as he tried to express his joy in seeing everyone on stage together.

A first time ever on stage collaboration performance by Trace Adkins, T. Graham Brown, Jimmy Fortune and Marty Raybon of “Workin’ On A Building,” had the crowd on their feet in awe. The song was originally recorded in 2012 as part of a fundraising effort to benefit the Mindanao Blessings International Philippines Orphanage Project.

Vince Gill, alone on the stage with just his guitar, delivered a touching performance of “Prove Me Wrong,” a song written by Gill and recorded by John Berry in 1995.

One of the most special moments came during the show when John took to the stage to sing his new single, “The Richest Man,” a heartfelt tribute to his father for teaching him the important things in life are friendships and values, not material things. "I may have written this song about my dad, but if my dad was here tonight, he would say I was the richest man he ever knew," expressed Berry as he introduced the song.

Berry followed this with “There Could Never Be Another Love,” with his wife Robin on stage next to him, sharing with those in attendance that he had 35 treatments for his cancer and she was right beside him for each and every one of them. As the song progressed, audience members brought to the stage, one by one, 35 long stemmed red roses to represent each cancer treatment. There was not a dry eye in the house.

Three unannounced and surprise guests stepped on stage with performances of their iconic songs. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Jim Messina, had the crowd on their feet with his Loggins and Messina hit song, "If Your Momma Don't Dance," and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood performed their legendary hit songs "Walk Away Joe" and "Friends in Low Places."

The evening ended with a sing-a-long of “We All Come Together,” a song recorded by John Berry and many of the artist’s who appeared throughout the concert to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. The original song was written by John Berry and Chuck Jones, but the lyrics were modified to fit this special occasion by Jones who came out and sang front and center along with many of the artists who performed during the event.

"It's so hard to find the words to convey how I feel about the "We All Come Together” Benefit, not only for me, but also for Music Health Alliance. Thank you is not big enough, incredible is not incredible enough and amazing is not amazing enough. In a million years I could not have imagined a night like Tuesday night. The artists, emcees, the photographers, the press, the Berry Lead team, the band, my friends, my family, the folks I met that night; it is almost too much to wrap my mind around. There was an enormous amount of love in the room. I am honored, humbled and grateful for the love shown to me and Robin. It is my hope that in the future as I heal and get back to playing music, that I can pass on that huge amount of love I received Tuesday night to others. Whether it be for folks in the music community, family, friends or fans, I want to give back what has been shown to me,” shares John Berry. “I am so happy that Music Health Alliance is a recipient of all the love shown Tuesday night. MHA has been there for my family for several years, providing answers and assistance for all our health insurance needs."

Artists who generously and graciously gave of their time and talent were revealed by media partner WSM Radio and live-streamed on The Heartland Network on the Cody, Coffee and Country show leading up to the event.
